Seriously, though, think about getting a Zalman fan bracket witha 5-volted Panaflo L1A if you are using a 9700, especially a 9700 AIW. I think I heard somewhere that the little metal box also gets warm, and a fan to keep the air moving should be a definite consideration. It won't truly be passive, b...

The minuet looks like it has potential for the Silent Computing market. The metal stamping and placement of the passive vents reminds me of the Dell small form factor and small desktop cases. These might open the door for some passive Zalman Flower experimentation, with their horizontal orientation....

Open up the computer. Check the heatsink and clean it of dust. The rear fan is also the CPU fan, and it is thermally-controlled. A buildup of dust on the heatsink would cause the fan to need to run faster and faster to generate the necessary airflow. Clearing the dust should quiet the thing down. Ab...

Speaking of a question...
Hey, Noiseblocker, do you suppose you could make a S2 available with a thermal probe attached for insertion between the fins of any CPU heatsink (thus providing the thermal solution I'm looking for?) I know I and many others would really appreciate it. (edit) In fact, a model of the S2 with the ther...

Ok, I tried a test. I took the Vantec Stealth on my volcano 9 and flipped it over. The Volcano 9 heatsink features a shroud that kind of goes over the top half of the heatsink and lets the fan blow air over the very outside of the heatsink. This shroud kind of lets the air I switched the fan from bl...

How do you think the FalconRock compares to the Volcano 9 heatsink (which is fairly hefty)? Could I just stick a FanMate on the fan I already have on there, or some other type of speed control? Or should I get rid of the Vantec Stealth and go to Panaflo? I still wonder about motor bearing life. The ...

The NMT-2 sounds like a good option for using a fan on my Volcano 9 heatsink. Now all I need to do is review the responses on my silent fan post, and I can put together a shopping list. I want to try a Noiseblocker S1 or S2 if there is a US supplier. (edit) oops, I spoke too soon. The NMT-2 is not o...

New Question (for CPU fan)
I am finally going all-out to silence my computer and I need to find a good silent CPU fan. I'm a tad leery about sticking a Panaflo on my CPU which will be running 24/7 when I'm up at school. I have heard that Panaflos tend to wear a bit faster than ball-bearing fans (being that their design is not...

Ok, i think I meant hardware cloth (it's still made of metal, isn't it?) I'm thinking of a size that's like the second one from the left.
Failing that, I have some GutterGuard that I can use that looks like that expanded metal stuff that Carvin uses over the front of their speaker cabs, only smaller.

The only reason the Fortron isn't on the "Recommended List" is because the Fortron has not yet been reviewed. (or at least that's as far as I can tell...) I'm getting one for my case so I can run my case without any case fans in the back. I'm still putting 2 L1As in the front at 5 volts, just to mak...

Well, it depends. The two 5-volt intakes will be pushing air out the back unless my case temperatures happen to get up so high that the Fortron fan ramps up and moves more air than the two intakes at 5 volts. The large ventilation spaces in the back will just be passive vents, but I will cut the one...

Finally doing it... (another Chieftec Dragon thread)
Well, I know what I'm going to do about cooling my Chieftec Dragon. Take a look at this and see what you think... I will start off by installing a Fortron with 120mm fan for case air exhaust. This should provide all the exhaust power I will need, and at very low noise levels. No exhaust case fans wi...

Can I expect the best from this setup?
I am looking into stepping from my noisy Enermax power supply to the Fortron 300W+120mm fan, and I am wondering if I can expect the supply to adequately power my rig. Here's what I will have: AMD Duron 1 GHz on ASUS A7V266 80mm Vantec Stealth as CPU fan 60mm Yate Loon fan at 5v on ZM80A-HP ATi Radeo...

Well, don't worry about it. The title of this post should be changed to "Stupid Failure: My futile attempt to tame the Enermax Whisper PSU" because the 92mm L1A now doesn't seem to get enough voltage to start properly, and it just pulsates as it is trying to overcome the bearing resistance and start...

If you replace both fans with Panaflos, they are fairly quiet, but not silent. The Enermax thermal probe is gay so that if you pull it out of its spot inside the coil where it is, the voltage is not enough to start a 92mm Panaflo. I have one that is just sitting in my Enermax, sort of pulsating, bec...

I just took both fans out of the Enermax and replaced them with their corresponding L1A model, and then I pulled the thermal probe out of the middle of that coil and just set it by there and the PSU is now very silent. Barely pushes any air, though, and it seems like it takes some fairly high temps ...

I leave the 92mm fan in to still be forcing air over the heatsinks. I fear that any less would cause my PSU to blow up. I find that the 92mm Panaflo at the speeds that it runs in this setup do not generate any audible noise at all so I leave it in. I don't expect it to increase the airflow out the b...

Which case fans for me?
I have a Chieftec Dragon case. The Dragon, as you know, is the Chieftec equivalent of the Antec SX1030B. I need some case fans to fit the folowing case airflow situation: I have an Enermax PSU with Panaflo fans in it. The Panaflos are spinning very slowly and moving very little air, but the supply i...

Thermally-controlled CPU cooling solutions
What thermally-controlled CPU cooling solutions are out there? I am looking into a way to quiet a Vantec Stealth that I have on my Volcano 9 heatsink. I am too scared to put anything lower in airflow than that fan on my CPU and I am looking for a way to add thermistor control to it.
