Will the ASUS Z97I-PLUS which has an 8 pin power socket work with a PicoPSU 160 which has a 4 pin adapter?
I understand that some boards with an 8 pin socket do work with 4 pin adapters and some don't!

Can you over-clock RAM with a non K CPU on a Zxx mobo?
Intel’s byzantine market segmentation has me confused. I have a Z77 ITX board and have ordered an i5-3470 as an upgrade and am also thinking of finally moving beyond 8GB. Is it possible on a Z77 board to run RAM at higher than 1600 which is what the i5 is rated for? Also it seems as if you can over-...

NUC: Replace the fan? Max 2.5" HDD depth and noise?
The SPCR review of the Haswell NUC is favourable to me as with only the CPU loaded the noise level seems very good. I won't be stressing it more than the TPMGEnc test which gave 16 dBA @ 70C. I’ve noticed that some of the other reviews were critical of the noise and that is probably because they max...

If it outputs too many watts for that case you could always lower the maximum multiplier in the BIOS until you reach the maximum speed that the case comfortably supports; assuming the Motherboard has that option.
On top of that under-volt as well will give you more headroom.

It's the one I linked to I think. It's dual DP but I was asking if they are both 1.2 not stating that they are.sn1009 wrote:smilingcrow: Thanks for the links, very informative.
Do you remember the name of the dual DP 1.2 nVidia card that you found on Newegg? I can't seem to find it.

Re: Dual 4K monitor PC
This leads me to believe that a single GFX with 2 outputs (displayport 1.2) is the best way of doing it when the goal is a quiet PC. Two GFX cards with 1 output each would yield close to twice the power consumption - correct me if I'm wrong. The link below is current and shows power consumption for...

I'm hoping some more NUC-sized cases come out with better cooling options ala HDPLEX. Re: Gigabyte Brix - Haswell. Noise levels?
Thanks CA_Steve. I’m looking at the Brix not the Pro version. It will likely be a Haswell Celeron or an i3 at the most as it’s for a HTPC and other light usage. I had read the Techspot review but have no reference for what their subjective opinion of quiet is. 39C at idle for the Ivy Bridge version ...

Gigabyte Brix - Haswell. Noise levels?
Anyone have a Brix be it Ivy Bridge or Haswell? I'm looking for the taller one as I want to use a HDD rather than a mSATA drive so hopefully the extra volume aids cooling. The Intel NUC sounds quiet judging by the SPCR review and has BIOS fan control which helps. I downloaded the BRIX manual and the...

Re: Why I won't recommend a Haswell system until August+
I'm now thinking about getting the lowest price quad core instead and undervolting it at stock freq. Keeping it for a year and then selling it on ebay/replacing it with the Broadwell equivalent to the i5-4670K. :) There have been strong rumours that Haswell’s replacement will be BGA only for the de...

Re: Intel Haswell here, fully fanless pcs
With the average PC using maybe an 80+ bronze rated power supply of 450 watts or more, the actual difference at the wall when its idling at under 10% PSU load may be a lot less than the numbers suggest. By comparison an 80+ gold PSU is a lot cheaper than a motherboard and CPU and will reduce power ...

Re: Intel Haswell here, fully fanless pcs
Ivy can apparently go under 12W idle to begin with. The actual CPUs have been idling pretty low for years. This sort of review will not tell us much about how low idle power consumption that can actually be. They're all about waste. It may be that it'll end up worse than Ivy depending on the type o...

I just read the Newegg reviews and there are clearly multiple revisions of the V3. It seems as if it went like this: A) One USB 3.0 via external cable. B) One USB 3.0 via internal header. C) Three USB 3.0 via internal headers. Just need to get the revision numbers to make sure I get the last version...

@Abula. The SPCR review summed it up by saying that: '...not as quiet as the quietest cases, nor as cool as the coolest ones.' My components have a fairly modest power output so I do not have to look for the absolute best case just one that is good enough performance wise with the features that I am...

Thanks for the replies. After a bit more research I am liking the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1. Not sure of build quality which is an issue after the Define R4 let me down. I actually bought a Fractal Design Define R4 but I was hearing a noise at times which I had never heard with the Antec so when it developed 2 faults within a week of purchase I returned it for a refund; shame as it had some good features. I’m not sure that pre release info and previews for Haswell is later than for previous architectures. Anandtech previewed Ivy Bridge about 6 weeks before rele...

I understand that CS6 benefits from both CUDA and OpenCL so again nVidia is the only way to go. Huh? Open CL is supported by Intel, AMD and Nvidia. As for Cuda, I guess it depends on whether the user is talking about Premiere (useful) or Photoshop (not useful). They only mentioned CS6 so who knows!...

Re: Is the i7 GPU [enough] for two displays?
For CS6 or CS5.5 you definitely want a nVidia GPU as the performance difference is dramatic. CS5.5 is CUDA only and you want at least a GTS 450. I understand that CS6 benefits from both CUDA and OpenCL so again nVidia is the only way to go. For CS5.5 it was straightforward but the situation with CS6...

Ivy bridge run hot when OC, so if you are going for a high OC, i would go with water. For a mid OC, like 4.0ghz i think the circuity will be fine as you wont be pushing it too much. 4GHz is a mild over-clock that you will hit at stock voltage unless you are extremely unlucky. The main improvement i...

I wonder how the midrange keplers will compare against the 560 in cuda applications. There`s no doubt that the keplers will be a lot more efficient in games but in other applications, who knows. The GTX 680 is doing fine with CUDA in CS5.5 according to the users on the Adobe forums: http://forums.a...
