Mainboard soll auch in Deutschland auf den Markt kommen und wird wohl über 200 Euro kosten
Everybody should be able to understand that ;)

They don't tell their sources nor exactly when, but they are usually well informed.

Was it due to numerous emails ?

Anyway, it's a pity their sales channels sucks here (it's really difficult to find a precise aopen component besides cases).

If you don't overclock, 550W is pure BS.

I measured a A64 3000+, MSI K8(FISR?), 2x512, Radeon 9200, 1 HDD, DVD, FDD at about max. 180W AC (= from the wall).

but it's still strange that they don't follow their naming convention.

The name should be something like MX7GM ...

wait 'n see.

Umh, now a 1.7 GHz centrino is about 270€ here ...

The official aopen.co.jp product page is here and the announcement here.

It didn't appeared in the other (glogal, eu, us) websites, altough in their "motherboard search" page, the i855GME chipset apears in a drop-down box.

It's around 103mm, I measured it at 107mm with the last heatpipe stuff.

(from the white plastic of the socket, was in a live pc, so it may be off by a few mm)

Already done in the gallery forum.

I removed the PSU, put a DC-DC board (+ external brick) and huge heatsink.

It isn't passive, fan @5V.

been there, done that, got no problems
(HP DVD-Writer 200i, almost 1year)

but I'd like to recommend you to think about a bigger tower for 2 or 4 IDE drives to firewire. If the goal is to have it fixed or mostly fixed (not mobile), it can be useful after when you add HDD.

What you can try also is to find the appropriate arctic cooling VGA silencer (see a review, the whole family). Maybe the NV1 fits ?

I'm running an 24/7 HTPC based on a p3 and an integrated motherboard.
Max. power consumption is 79W
Electricity price is about 0.22 CHF / kWH

So, I'm paying around 0.080 x 24 x 30 x 0.22 = 12.7 CHF / month (8.5 €).

Broadband cost around 70 CHF (46 €).

What you can find are bridge board, which are the basis of those external boxes. I researched some times ago for Firewire <-> IDE and found many of those, which accept 2 drives, are daisy-chainable, and cost less than 50€. Most of them are oxford911 (for FW4000) and 922 (FW800) based, specs here ....

I'd got further from MikeC suggestion and replace the whole PSU with an external one, eventually by hacking the actual one. In bonus, you can get a better heatsink. This is obviously a shamelss plug to my post in the gallery forum . Otherwise, I have the impression that the PSU fan could be set to a...
