I'm really happy with my new Wb 320 (JB) Silent and very very very cost effective, at least here in Sweden. I am too. The only problem is that he asked for a 400GB hard drive and Western Digital doesn't make 400GB hard drives yet. Are you both referring to the Western Digital WD3200JD? http://www.n...

3200 comes in both Winchester (S939, 90nm) and Newcastle (S754, 130nm) varieties. I have a Newcastle I got from Fry's. It's bundled with an ECS 755-A2. It's a solid performer, don't let the Fry's guys fool you. It doesn't have the best overclocking features, but it's rock solid and performs well at ...

I was very careful with the memory and not letting the ceramique get on the sides. *UPDATE* I get artifacts in games. Now I'm gonna need to fix this if possible... Should I try a VERY thorough cleaning? Try the stock thermal compound? Is there anything I can do at all? I just got the freaking video ...

Just installed NV5 on 6800, get beeps when comp shuts down
It makes a series of beeps whenever I shut down. I just installed the NV5 silencer. The hardware was the same as before and it didn't make any beeps until I installed. I also tried switching video cards and there were no beeps on shut down. Should this be a cause for concern? *EDIT* My friend who ha...

RAM sinks on HDs. Yay? Nay?
Should I try it? Will it help cooling? Right now I have a fan blowing on them... but if I try to change my drive cooling, the fan may end up blowing on the hard drive cage and not the hard drives directly. Should I try getting some RAM sinks?

Replacing chipset active coolers with passive ones
How do I know what size to get? I want an Epox 9NDA3J but it has what I imagine will be a noisy fan on the motherboard. I want to replace it, probably with an Alpha 9.5 mm thick fan (I'll have a 6800 with NV Silencer on it, there should be room right?). I don't know what size to get though. http://w...

How to fit Arctic Cooling Silencer on 3-pin fan controller?
Did you manage to shove it in? It didn't seem secure that way. I'm thinking of doing some wire splicing. Is there an adapter somewhere? The only ones I've seen are 3-pin to 4-pin. Not 2-pin to 3-pin. I have a generic 3.5" controller. Should I get the Zalman Fanmate 1? Will it fit snugly there? The r...

For a somewhat quiet but non-silent application, what's a fan that pushes... ohh about 30 CFM and has a mid-20s dB noise level out of curiosity?

Little update (not really about PSUs so I'll keep it short): Roommate upgraded. Fry's deal for CPU/mobo. I insisted he get a Zalman 7000 AlCu something something. Best of all... he got a new case! He decided he might as well get everything new and have a complete comp he can take home. He got a good...

Does it matter if foam is touching the motherboard?
From the back. Usually there's a small clearance space for the mobo. If I put foam inside to dampen, it would end up touching parts of the mobo. Is that a big deal? Should I trim parts of the foam?
Thanks
Thanks

How to make indirect escape paths for noise?
The "Cases: Basics and Recommendations" article says that the front bezel should act as a baffle that forces sound to travel at odd angles so they lose intensity. How can this be done? (I'm not playing devil's advocate, I just don't know how and want to find out) Is there an effective simple design?...

Suspending an HD cage with 2 HDs? I have some questions
Right now my HDs are sitting on a piece of foam, "hogging" all the intake air from the fan in front of my case. But I have a CPU duct that needs to be closed because of noise issues, so I want to use the intake fan as a real intake fan, and that means suspending the HDs. It seems easier to suspend t...

Sorry I haven't had a chance to respond. I should mention that I'm not much of an OCer and I'd rather not OC if I don't have to. dshreter, The goal is just for the CPU and vid card to become obsolete at the same time. I already have the vid card so I have to choose a CPU/mobo that will have a simila...

Pay extra for a 939 or just stick with a 754 Athlon 64?
Normally I'd just get the 939 because it seems like a better deal, but the thing is I'm stuck with an AGP vid card for now. I got a 6800 because my 9600 died suddenly. I was planning on getting a new processor anyway. The two sides are... The 939 probably isn't much more expensive but has great over...

Specifically with the 6800 and the NV Silencer 5. I know several users (including me) had problems with the 9600 series and the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer Rev 3. The noise on the 6800 is unbearable but I don't want to make a switch if there's a risk of failure (yes I'm being paranoid here)

I'm referring to both seek noise and just idle spinning. Does it come from a certain direction or everywhere?

Are SATA drives any louder than IDE drives? and other quest.
1) Are they louder? I need more HD space. 2) Is SATA support on new motherboards practically standard now? (I'm getting a new mobo/cpu soon anyway) 3) How much faster are they than IDE? 4) Are they going to replace IDE? If I'm getting a new HD, should I might as well go with SATA? 5) Are Samsung and...
