Personally, I'm disappointed that we still haven't seen any power measurements with the 65nm chips undervolted. The early adopters always seem eager to overclock (and overvolt) the damn things but they never reduce the voltage to see how well they undervolt. I guess we people who are interested in s...

Fujitsu 2.5" drives
I'm planning to build a new PC during the next few days and intend on using a Fujitsu laptop drive. The one I have in mind is the 120GB SATA MHV2120BH which is available at a very good price here in the UK. I know that earlier Fujitsu laptop drives were very quiet but does anyone have any experience...

PS3 interesting design
Slightly OT: Not about PCs per se, but still of interest to some I'm sure. As I'm sure many are aware, the new Sony Playstation 3 has just been released in Japan. Despite housing a couple of very hot chips in a small-ish enclosure, the PS3 reportedly runs practically inaudibly. Quite a few Japanese ...

NVIDIA is making it possible to do general purpose calculation on their gpu. Should give great performance on floating point stuff. Same for ATI: http://ati.amd.com/companyinfo/events/StreamComputing/index.html Yep, but the new G80 from NVidia is an absolute beast even in comparison to the R580 fro...

The major pain in the bum has been finding a decent heatsink for AM2 that'll fit in a Silverstone LC-11 (so <~70mm in height). The Asus X-Mars seems reasonable enough. The linked Madshrimps review indicates that the combined height of the heatsink and fan is just 62mm. Not sure if this is indeed th...

It is? If *I* recall correctly it's rated based on the original K6 core. Time to do some actual research... I'm pretty sure you are correct in this recollection. Bear in mind that the Semprons had much better performance than the crippled netburst Celerons. The new 65nm Yonah/(Conroe?) based Celero...

I'm open to suggestions. Just looking for a case that will handle a powerful system, looks like a decent piece of high tech furniture and doesn't make much noise. If money is truly no object and you don't mind having a non-tower desktop-style case, then either the mCubed HFX cases or a ready-built ...

Yup - basically: Pentium D (i.e. Pentium 4 x 2) = Half-decent performance but very hot. Core (2) Duo = Massively improved design with excellent performance which runs much cooler. It's no coincidence that Intel are phasing out the old Netburst designs as fast as they can. You'd have to be as mad as ...

DVI is DVI, basically. You shouldn't have any problems connecting a DVI display to a DVI connector on a motherboard.

The pitch: My current (and rather crappy) PC is kept in a spare room upstairs and, to be honest I could do with converting this to another guest bedroom. The RV530 chip in a X1600 basically has a quarter of the shader power of the R580. However, it has exactly the same feature set of the faster chip including memory controller etc. (and it is actually more advanced than the R520 in the X1800) so there should be nothing stopping this chip from support...

It all really depends on which LCD TV you are using as support varies from brand to brand and even model to model. For instance, I've got a Toshiba 32WLT66 which unfortunately, will not allow 1:1 pixel mapping for 1366x768 using any brand of video card whether through VGA or DVI/HDMI. Apparently it'...
