I once purchased a Seagate HDD (80-gig) from a computer shop; it was an OEM version, packed in a layer of bubble wrap. While walking out of the computer shop, I managed to whack the drive against a concrete-filled guardrail support post.

It's working without a hitch as I speak, fortunately!

I've been looking around; it seems that ATi cards put the AGP bridge chip on the "back" side of the card to avoid cooler compatibility problems.

Nice work! The photo of the heat-pipe clearance punch-out is still down (got a Comcast 404 page on this end). What will you be using as a PVR storage drive when you remove the WD?

I like the sound of this build, but can't see the images. Is it possible for you to re-host them? (photobucket, etc.)

Sorry to hear about that... someone from thecarlounge.net's computers forum also posted about suffering dud BFG cards this week. I suppose if nothing else can work, you can get yourself an ATi X850 board.

Cerberus, Thats an amazing announcement- quite surprising for AGP users... might be a little life left in the old platform afterall! Yeah, I was gobsmacked to see the headline! I also noticed that Newegg has AGP-flavor cards based on ATi's X850 GPU. Probably have noisy stock coolers, but I guess AT...

Is that a Coppermine or Tualatin PIII? I would so crush the processor die on a Coppermine if I tried to set up a heatsink like that

And here is a wonderfully Franglais translation of the website that announced the news, courtesy Google and DailyTech. Looks like it'll come stock with an Accelero strapped to it.

My folks have you all beat. They still have their Northgate 316SX (i386 processor, 16mHz clock speed) PC from 1991. It uses 30-pin RAM modules! They have since moved on to a Pentium-120 Acer Aspire desktop (long departed), a Pentium II-400 IBM Aptiva (now mine to tinker, trying to figure out h...

The CPU cooler in my system is a passive modified Ninja (Arctic Silver 5). I removed the little 'bolthead' decoration on the heatpipes, removed 8 out of the 23 fins, and then bent the heatpipes around a screwdriver shaft as mandrel, the ones that were close to the fin edge to the inside and the oth...

Need to replace mobo with K8M-800 chipset - recommendations?

After selling off an overkill not-very-quiet system I built last year, I wound up with a S754 Sempy 3100 on an ECS board with VIA's K8M-800 chipset, as noted in my sig. Unfortunately, the onboard NIC decided to take a dump. Since I can onlly RMA for a replacement ECS board, and since I discovered (t...

I was wondering is there any way to mount one in the HDD bay?...if not would a 5.25" converter work for the main 2 bays? I would really like the hidden idea of the 2 hdd bays tho since I only use it when Im flashing bios or doing DOS stuff. Thanks Yes, the 7700 does fit, at least with the MSI 6150 ...

You were right; I'd installed the console version but was too clueless to work it. Deleted that and installed the graphical client and have it running at ~60% CPU usage. We'll see how this works.

(...wonder how effective a Pentium 133 system would be as an auxiliary folding machine...)
