Prescott 2.4 GHz cool enough?

I am currently using a Celeron 2.0 but I'm forced to upgrade to a P4. The cheapest P4 I can get hold of is a 2.4 GHz with 533 MHz buss precott. Northwood seem to be hard to find. Will a prescott run cool enopugh or should I try to get hold of a Northwood?

Samsung, WD or Maxtor?

There are reports that Samsungs, WDs or Maxtors latest offerings all have promising acoustic properties. But which one is the quietest?
Will SPCR make a comparitive review of these drives anytime soon?

Budget? AMD? Socket A?

I'm going to build a cheap system for my mother and intially I planned to use socket 478/celeron but after getting suggestions for an AMD64 for my own system it made me wonder if AMD would have more to offer performance and heat-wise. Any suggestions about socket, processor, chipset and motherboard?

So which AMD processor should I get? theres a bunch of different ones with differnet sockets and buss speed and prices and I'm just confused :?
And then the next question is which motherboard should I get? One I can underclock with, right? What experiences do people have with the boards otherwise?

I contacted them but they gave a negative reply. But chances are that they might have some nidec motor SP1614Cs in stock as long as they are willing to check it for you, which should be quite likely if you ask them in their local shop.

Re: Nidec Samsungs avaliblility in Sweden

Added Tricom and second reply from dp.se. Also added note about local store that sells Samsung drives. I got my 160 GB / 8 MB Spinpoint from Komplett.se, and while I have no idea what this JVC/Nidec business is about, I can say that it's as quiet or quieter than my 80 GB Barracuda IV. Thank you very much.
Will I need to lower the voltage of the 120 mm papst fans to get a reasonably quiet operation?

And how quiet is Zalman 7000AlCu compared to other more expensive solutions like a thermalright hsf?

So where does the "problem" lie?
The Arctic Cooling hsf performs as good as the stock intel hsf(but much queter).

Its a 0.13 micron celeron and NOT 0.18 micron one.
So I think temps shoould be lower.

Okay, Iv'e done some measurements. Ambient temps are around 20-25 i guess. Motherboard temp is 32 degrees. 44 degrees celcius with all hsf at idle. 58 with intel stock hsf, 56 with the arctic cooling, 64 with arctic cooling with fan running at 1200 rpm under load. Thus the problem does not lie in th...

I'm using the paste that came with the heatsink. Silicone I think.

What is the back of a heatsink in this case?
The only thing that matters is the surface that faces the cpu.

Nothing rough but the surface that faces the cpu is uneven.

Something likethis:

The fans are spinning in 2200 rpm. I have a Sonata. Can it be that the surface of the arctic cooling is not perfectly flat but a bit uneven, and therfore i have to use a bit more paste?

50 C normal?

Iv'e got a Cleron 2 GHz cooled by a Arctic Cooling 4, Not the TC one, running in full speed.
The processor is ca 50 degrees celsius.

Is this normal?
It seem hot.

I have applied the thermal paste corectly, maby a tiny bit too much.

The system board temp is around 32 C.
