Re: Heat issue after video card upgrade (Antec P180 case)

1) Instead of a exhaust at at spot2, you might want to move that to the HSF, it's far more effective in cooling the CPU there and moving the noise source deeper in the case. 2) I notice you have a P180. The intake (spot 4) is covered by a plastic door that severely blocks air flow. You would need to...

Re: Did people abandon watercooling for their silent PCs ?

For your next PC, unless you are going for Crossfire 6970s or SLI 580s. There's no need to pick watercooling for noise or performance. You will find it hard to beat the performance of a thermalright archon + Shamon. Even warriorpoets PC doesn't NEED watercooling I don't think silentpcreview ever had...

Re: Quiet 24" monitor

Just want to post my experience (which has been positive). I actually had 4 U2410: An A01, 2 x A02, and a A04. One of the A02s had bad capacitors and died on me, but none had the buzzing issue (at 50% brightness). For noise reference, I can hear my S-Flex 120mm (which I didn't find as good as they c...

RAID Question

Hello, I have a Hardware vs. Software RAID question. I am going to setup a RAID 1 array as I am getting more paranoid about data loss. I already have a scheduled weekly NAS backup but would like the added redundancy. My question is what type of setup would be the most portable / easiest to recover? ...

The Thermaltake's frameless design would not be good for an intake fan. The 16dBa rating is definitely inaccurate.

Can't comment on the CPU fan as i don't have much experience with the P4 nor 7000. Is your CPU fan mobo controlled? what's your load temp/fan speed? If it's running cool and the CPU fan isn't spinning much beyond 2000 at load. You shouldn't have any problems wiht a fan swap. For the GPU, there'd be ...

I doubt the AKIMBO would be really quiet. The fan looks rather small for quiet standards. My guess is it's prob. as quiet as a stock g92 8800gts.

If you want a cool looking card. Why not just go for a non-green pcb with a thermalright HR-03gt. It'd be more quiet and most likely cool better.

How do Manufacturer's measure fan controller voltage ranges?

As title says. Anyone has any idea? I recently purchased a silverstone F-33B fan controller that claims 5V-12V. It caused clicking with a few of my fans, but after some swapping, I realized that a more prominent problem is it doesn't drop the voltage enough. It only drops the voltage to 7.8V -8.7V d...

Re: Occasional CAD - MLB/CPU/GPU advice

XP preferred. I would revisit the OS preference. 1) Unless you are using xp 64 bit, you are limited to 2-3GB of memory per application and the 3GB switch in xp isn't the most reliable thing. 2) Assuming you use AutoCAD http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=10361428 . This can p...

If X is a chance that 1 drive will fail and you have n drives, 100%-[(100%-X)^n]. When X and n are low (and here they are), it's very close to nX he claimed. This is also assuming that the chance of drive A failing is independent of drive B failing. When 2 or more hard drives are in the same system...

FSX is mostly CPU bound and doesn't appear to be shader intensive.

Jump for the 9600gt and try to get a 2nd monitor. FSX is one of those games where satisfaction scales almost linearly with # of monitors :)

I read that you are using one single exhaust fan. What material are you using to seal the top blowhole? I am wondering if it might be leaking.

Or plug in a resistor in the circuit. I have never done this on a chasis, but did it successfully on a fan controller.

The HDs were running in the 50s and ...
