Ok, so as I understand it they can change their clock and vcore while running. Which must be the reason why AMD gives various power consumptions depending on clock and vcore :

Athlon 64 3200+ :
max 89w @2000Mhz (vcore = 1.5)
max 66w @1800Mhz (vcore = 1.4)
max 35w @800Mhz (vcore = 1.3)

I'm currently running a TBred XP 1800+ underclocked to 133x5 = 666Mhz, vcore = 1.1v. Should be around 11w max dissipation. Running passive with a TT Volcano 7 heatsink, only fan in the system is from the PSU (Nexus NX-3500 that I'm reviewing, it's a Fortron FSP350-60PN (PF) painted in black, they di...

I do.

By the way, here is what AMD thinks about thermal paste :
High quality video (2.1Mb).
Low quality video (841kb).

They must have been smoking AS3 before making this video.

That's how I understand it too. The pdf says "Transition to 4-Pin Header : Adds 25kHz PWM control signal".

Yep, I've seen that in the meantime. I especially like the "increased operating RPM range" that the new 4 pins connector offers. If this thing can cool down a 120w CPU, one could set it to very low rpm/cfm rates and use it with a lower wattage CPU.

Doesn't work real well if the management's monitoring method is looking at reports from the firewall hits that come from your IP address and determining usage. But works pretty well if you have it set up to connect to a proxy you installed on one of your coworker's computer. Not that I ever ...

The only thing I would correct is that you don't have to RAMdisk the whole disk, or even the whole OS. Obviously not, and how would you ramdisk the whole OS anyway ? :) BTW, don't try running F@H from a USB key. They are usually designed for a limited number of read/write cycles, and will quickly g...

Yes, the SPCR colour scheme is great for not drawing too much attention to what I'm doing, as it could (almost) be a Word document I'm reading (from a distance, if you squint, with one eye closed, while having a bright light shone in your face    ) Have you ever considered using G...

Windows cannot do that. The only way I see to do it is creating a ramdisk from a disk image at startup, save it back to disk at shutdown, and in the meantime have F@H run from the ramdisk. It looks like Cenatek Ramdisk can do exactly that. Of course if your computer crashes you lose all changes that...

You might want to check this thread . I ended up buying a SLM that can measure as low as 30db(a), for about 180 euros. Such a unit would be quite enough for your needs. If you want to *compare* the sound level of various components, you don't have to measure from one meter. If you want to measure th...

Ok done. I didn't test the read only thing but it should work just fine.

SPCR vs the cuda 7200.7 and AAM

I e-mailed Seagate tech support to ask them why the 7200.7 manual says that the drive doesn't support AAM, and still, they include noise level measurements for "quiet seek", and "performance seek". After all their blablabla about "our drive are so quiet that we do not need to include AAM", etc, they...

I think the rubber grommets that come with this case (or at least those that come with the Compucase 6A19, but they should be the same) are a bit too rigid, and I'm not sure you'll get proper decoupling of the drive, even by using longer or smaller diameter screws. But your results will also depend ...

Yes it was me, these grommets don't do much to reduce vibrations actually. Don't overtighten the screws, and try the trick I gave (can't find the thread, but look at the two pictures at the bottom of this page). But the only way to really get rid of the vibrations is to suspend the drive.

Tried Panaflo, Papst and Noiseblocker. Panaflo wins. Papst is quieter @12v but airflow drops quickly < 9v. Noiseblocker buzzes but vibrates less than Papst and pushes more air.

Didn't try the NMB 80mm but 120mm B30 is very quiet (buzzes a bit though).
