Theres a fair chance on a CPU that is not overclocked and have fair case flow
you could run passive if you have a 120mm rear fan.

Problem solved I used a Zalman 7000A alcu.
now to sort out the PSU fan - which ramps up and down continuously
from dead quiet to all out screem and back again - I think a constant drone would be easier to live with !

It could also be that your new card has it's cooler close to the sensor on the mobo causing it to heat up and therfore showing a higher temp even though the rest of the system is not getting a great deal warmer

IMHO - go with the SI-97 - the only Athlon XP cooler I have had that out performs it by any margin is an Aerocool DP102 - at the expense of noise .
