Re: Quietening shopping list
Not entirely sure whether to get the cleaning kit - how would I go about cleaning thermal paste off otherwise? Rubbing alcohol on toilet paper works good. Recently I've been using finger nail polish remover, but only because I am out of the rubbing alcohol. I'm sure there are other solvents that wo...

Re: Novice seeking advice on first DIY system
- Video card: GeForce 6600GT or ATI X700. Is there any difference between brands (apart from price)? Any suggestions of which brand? Would Geforce 6600GT be more stable since the mobo uses a nVidia chipset?? Neither. The best deal in that price range is the X800GTO. 128MB cards can be had for as li...

Re: Built system using a In Win Z720T
The Z720T Saga continues: X800GTO Cooling I just got high speed Internet, so I was able to remove the PCI modem, giving me enough room to mount the P4 heatsink with fan to the X800GTO. I also took off both the PCI slot covers to let the hot air escape. Ninja Ducting I removed the rear 92mm fan and b...

60*C is pretty good for a passive X800 under load. If that's idle, then yeah, I'd be a little concerned. My X800GTO (R480) with passive Zalman ZM80D-HP is 37*C idle and 65*C load. This is with the GPU undervolted from 1.41V to 1.135V. I'll let you know latter today. I just put my P4 Retail Heatsink...

My suggestion: Give the Antec Minuet II a pass. I built one system in a Minute & managed to make it quiet, but it took a huge amount of effort & tends to overheat. You can find better cases. Look for a little more space & better I/O for air. The PSU is not very quiet either, I had to do some major ...

[quote="sanguinepenguinx"] What kind of features do you lose in the Sempron? Is Cool N Quiet as important for the Sempron line? No Cool'n'Quiet in the under 3000+ Semprons. C'n'Q would be nice to have. My "old" 90nm Sempron 2800+ (non 64) is worth about $50 on eBay. I recently sold a 130nm Athlon 64...

Another concern regarding the CM is HDD cooling. With the stock arrangement the HDD seems to be in a "dead spot". Any great ideas on how to overcome this? That actually looks like an excellent placement for a cool running hard drive. If I had that case I might even put a duct around the inta...

My guess is: the Ninja fits fine, but the Ninja and its default 120mm fan with the default mounting clips doesn't even come close to fitting. ???? The clips don't have to extend any further than the hex nuts on the Ninja--at least how I am using them they don't. I have the S-flex on the botto...

- 2 quiet 80mm fan would do the job (not sure if fanless Ninja might fit into that, but we have choices for quiet fanned heatsink) I for one don't look at the Centurion and think 2 - 80mm fans. I think, wow, that's a nice open rear grill. I can build a duct off a 120mm fan mounted to the Ninja and ...

Hmm, so the Evercase is shorter and less deep. Oh, well. I should point out that I was able to get the Z720T for $41 with free shipping and it includes a 300W 120mm fan full-size ATX power supply. edit: (just thought.. the tforce supports E6 semprons out-of-the-box right? (have 3000+ semp64)) Don't count on any motherboard having the most current BIOS installed. How about speeding up your Barton a little more? Believe me I tried but anything past 11x200 @ 1.575v doesn't seem to be stable. Not sure if it' because of the cpu or motherboard Well, that's rather low voltage. Try like 1.7~1.8. That should get you near 2.4GHz and shouldn't be too much harder to c...

It's plain feature advantage: 1) Gf6150 that MSI has, has HD support upto 1080i, gf6100 in biostart doesn't . Gf6150 is better overall. The HD content I could find played fine on both IGPs. You probably also need to buy nVidia's Purevideo to really use the HD feature of the 6150, just like you need...

Re: Anyone ever tried lead?
This stuff is heavy and soft so I think it won't vibrate easy and transport the vibrations to the case, its quite easy to bend the way you like, and it's not making any sound of its own  Its just an idea I get while I was at work today and saw this stuff. Re: Upgrade from Athlon Xp-M 2500+ to 64 world
How about speeding up your Barton a little more? Understand that the only real advantage of the K8 platform over your K7 is the reduced memory latency. The bang-for-your-buck cpu market has been pretty much stagnent for the past four years. (I don't even think the XP-M was a worth while improvement...

Where is this clickety clackety indigestion-sounding electric activity noise coming from? PSU? GFX card? I've had a little buzzing from my VRM's and PSU, but never anything that could be described as a "clickety-clackety" noise. I believe I am hearing noise like that from the video card blitter. Or...

Greetings, OTOH, two 92mm fans might be louder than one 120mm fan -- what about one 92mm? It is even quieter with no fan. :) And I can run it like that, but it's not going to cool an overclocked Sempron. Scythe Ninja dual 92mm fans instead of single 120mm Fan
The Ninja can't really take advantage of a 120mm fan without ducting. Most of a fan's airflow is at the edges and those edges are sticking off at least two sides of the Ninja. I think two 92mm fans blowing into the Ninja will be more efficient than one 120mm fan (or two 120mm fans in a push pull arr...

I had originally planned to use a fanless tower heatsink but it looks like most of the ones out there are too tall for the enclosure I had in mind, so I was hoping to be able to use a large heatsink such as an XP-120 and cool it semi-passively or with a very slow-turning fan (quietness is important...

The 90nm A64 can run at ~0.85Vcore; just not at stock clock speeds. Myself and many others with 90nm A64's cannot get motherboards to force the voltage below 1.10v, even on multiple high-end mobos that support down to 0.80v in BIOS, so your statement is misleading. This was all discussed a week ago...

My old 90nm Sempron 2800+ will POST at 1.000V on my TForce 6100, but hangs loading Windows XP. It will boot into Windows and run stable at the 1.1V BIOS setting (actually 1.07V). However, I managed to get a 130nm Athlon 64 2800+ to run off 0.850V, but It would not POST at the lowest 0.800V setting ...

Sempron 2800+ undervolting on TForce 6100
I did some undervolting testing with the Sempron last night. Looking at getting one as well. Did it come with Socket A mounting brackets? My Epox MB has the 4 holes in it & currently has an Alpha PAL8045.
