Hey dan, your system is 100% fanless, way to go! I hope you will please let us know how the Prime95 test works out. My own processor won't go below 1.225V without causing the Prime95 test to lock the machine, so that only a CMOS jumper reset would unlock it at all. At 1.225V everything is stable tho...

...there are no screwes used to hold the drive in. so i am still wondering how to anchor the 2.5" drive in there... When using the adapter and its brackets that I mentioned in the above post, you get a tight enough fit in the enclosure without any need whatsoever for further drive anchoring. The ID...

Hey grandpa_boris, just another comment here... When fitting the SilentDrive in the case, while it can be helpful in some situations to remove the side brackets in a SilentDrive enclosure (the ones that are attached with screws), I wouldn't recommend also removing the main brackets (i.e. the 'metal-...

Hey EasyRaider, also remember that you will find in any group of users a very wide array of hearing sensitivities. My own hearing is very sensitive, I can hear drive whine when another person right next to me doesn't hear it. I also can hear different frequencies of drive whine in one ear than in th...

Re: silencing a 2.5" drive under debian linux
...i didn't know those brackets were removable!... how did you mount your drive in there?... Thankfully the side brackets do come off rather easily, as they are attached with some small screws. I always remove them now, since mounting the SilentDrive with the brackets (in a 5.25" bay) causes some o...

my new fanless system is an EPIA-M in a morex 2699 case with a 2.5" laptop drive... being fanless, it's dead-silent -- except when the disk drive is on... the drive has an annoying high pitch whine that would have been drowned by a fan, but is audible in a silent box... the 2.5" drive is currently ...

do i just need to get a different pci card with an internal connector? Yes, that would do the trick. Now all you have to do is find one. Re: Packing foam under HD
Stuffed a bunch of those little chunks of packing foam under the hdd inside the cd/dvd drive bay cage. It's much easier than using the elastic ropes since all one has to do is grab and throw(Well maybe not that easy). Prior to this.. dtemp read 30-34C and now its 36-39C. I consider this a success a...

If you have extra 5.25" drive bays, then using IDE drive cages like this one can be helpful to reduce the whine in such situations. They almost completely enclose the drives and can be found with a front door as well (provides additional sound insulation), like in the linked one above. You can also ...
