Re: Samsung Spinpoint M 2.5" notebook drive tested
Test is here. The 40G is compared to a Seagate Momentous and two Hitachis, both larger 80G, a 4200 and a 5400rpm. Comments on noise are near the end, by ear. The performance tests appear thorough. But note: despite the author's hope for a 3 year warranty, the Samsung's is one year. Clip from articl...

Got a sample earlier and found it to be based on the Hush chassis, very quiet except for the HDD. like the Hush. Works well with Win XP Media, it's very slick. They say they're working on a truly silent version, however, and I should have a sample of it within the next few weeks. So many reviews to...

AVX Media Center (fanless)
This fanless almost silent 2.4 Ghz Pentium media centre is currently advertised on the SPCR web-site: http://store.niveusmedia.com/s.nl/c.304836/sc.2/category.3/it.A/id.190/.f (It looks a bit like the Hush pentium/ celeron model.) It has no fans, cooling is passive via heat pipes. Aesthetically it i...

The CPU is only one side of the equation. If you put a Pentium-M into a P4 board, the power regulators are operating at a very low power level with lower efficiency. If you use a 300W ATX PSU you also loose some Watt. If you use a high-end GPU your power draw will still be very high. Do you think i...

One drawback is that you are either going to have a ghetto setup, get a drill and jigsaw after your case cover, or find a heatsink/case combo like the Mappit (VIA) or Zalman (big bucks). But it’s good to see Northwood on S775 The pin retraction mechanism for socket T is supposedly quite delicate (it breaks easily). If you break a pin or two, the motherboard is useless. Apparently motherboards will be guaranteed for a limited number of insertions (20 insertions is what I've read)....

The Athlon 64 numbers look a bit fishy. How can it be using that much power, at 800 Mhz? Would you mind explaining what you mean by "current leakage", BTW?jojo4u wrote:Athlon 64
Much leakage current here. Look at the 800Mhz figures.
But still the best choice today if you look for a general purpose PC.

It's an unfair comparison, isn't it? You're comparing an undervolted P4 with a Pentium M on stock voltage. What happens if you undervolt the Pentium M?
