Re: Quiet 4K Gaming PC Build Guide

So the last page is incorrect, but the article table data is correct, is that correct? that table has an * on it, as the stock GPU speeds were (obviously) too loud (for a decent SPCR build guide). 1680 RPM @ 31~37 dBA@1m Vs manually set at its lowest setting that still prevents throttling 1260 RPM ...

Re: Smallest ITX Case for this setup (without a graphic card

Hi, I am looking for the smallest case I can fit this stuff into: i3-6100 with boxed cooler ATX PSU 1xSSD, 1xHDD, 1xODD (can be a slim one) no dedicated graphic card. I have checked out a lot of cases but it seems that most waste a lot of space for a dual slot graphic card which I won't use. I assu...

Re: Low-cost low wattage light gaming passive PC

All the pico does is to convert +12v to the other voltages needed. And since most stuff run on +12v and it's possible to feed stuff +12v directly from the brick, it could be argued that you hardly need a picoPSU at all.. ;) just be aware the minibox pico's barrel connector cant handle much more tha...

Re: Quietest 140mm led fan with decent airflow?

Thanks! that is a pretty old article - are they still the best? hard to say. as a general rule most of us here tend to stay away from led fans because they are often made of a more brittle plastic, that have a tendency to resonate more than softer (damper) materials. since this is the fan that's cl...

Re: Low-cost low wattage light gaming passive PC

Custom pico PSU seem to be popular in china, I read up they had pico PSU "rated 500w", when pair with Dell 240w, they have no problem running a non k i5 and 970. that is not possible. you can not get more watts from dc/dc PSU than what the brick puts out. (in fact, you will always get less, due to ...

Re: Firefox 44 was bad news for me

Updated to Firefox 44 last week and it didn't do the one thing you really want a browser to do - browse. Spend a couple of hours over a couple of days trying to debug the bastard (clean installs, safe mode, registry scrub, firewall rules, A/V check, etc.) with no joy. Finally reverted to 43.0.4. So...

Re: Low-cost low wattage light gaming passive PC

Upgrading to the G4400 is a good idea. However I a mgoing to stick to the Streacom case, this is the starting point of the whole build ! Regarding the HDPLEX PSU, it should be able to handle the load of a G4400 + 750 ti. However, some do not like the idea... http://www.overclock.net/t/1542018/mini-...

no installed server level raid card is going to stay much under 60c ish while in use.

if your server room doesn't get over 90f your card should be happy as a pig in slop.

good stuff. sounds like you are well on your way to silence. to get that GPU much quieter will probably make a fan swap and/or case ducting.

whats common around here is to only flush when needed, and usually just find a tree for #1 anyways.

raid is for servers, so they can stay running when a drive or 2 fails.
there is simply no need for raid in the home, or even in a sizeable office scenario. dont learn that lesson the hard way. (just my 2 cents.)

not being negative. just cant figure out where the idea that heatpipes, moving 100+ watts of heat, should not be "hot to the touch" comes from. just trying to nip this misconception in the bud, before it gains more steam.

Ill admit, I stopped reading at "Heatpipes are very hot to the touch."

- they should be very hot, that is their job. they are moving a lot of heat away from a very hot source. if they were not "very hot to the touch", then its time to show concern.
