What we'd like to know is how far the Zalman hangs over the edge of the NF7-S motherboard specifically.

If I knew this, I could measure how much space my case gives me between my NF7-S and my PSU.

Ah, ok.

I don't have a Sonata case, though... anyone care to measure exactly for me? :)

Yes, but how does he know it's 15mm from the edge of the NF7-S motherboard specifically?

Ex22: I've got a nf7-s v2 as well, with not a lot of room between the edge of the MB and the PSU (2.5 cm). How much space would you think is needed to clear the Zalman Heatsink? According to Zalmans measurement specs you should get about 15mm overhang on the NF7-S board. So you have plenty of margi...

Yes the 7000A will fit the nf7-s but you not only have to cut the clip as chylld says but also reverse the supports that hold the clip onto the MB which is against Zalman's directions. It does work though as that is what I use with my nf7-s. Unfortunately I am not familiar with that case so do not ...

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd like to find a 120mm fan that will play nice with the PSU fan header if possible, though, so I probably won't go with your setup, Bri. dukla, I found your excellent post here . It's a pity that the Papst doesn't sound any quieter than the default Yate Loon when plugge...

Surely someone can give me some suggestions as to what 120mm fans they've tried in their Seasonic...

I bought the Seasonic Tornado 400 to avoid the fan problem, which only seemed to happen with the Tornado 300s.

Take your chances, I guess. :(

to clarify: my SS300FP (or whatever it is, a tornado =), is not spinning its fan, but is emitting a whine. (It used to be silent while the fan wasn't spinning.) This problem only began this semester, my PSU was fine before winter break. So, you're saying that the fan is not spinning, and it's emitt...

Thanks for the tip, dukla. I've always been told that case ventilation is important, but I have never, ever had a case that allowed for that. I've tried putting fans in the lower-front of my case before, but even the loud ones never pushed enough air to make a difference. But your post got me thinki...

I had the same problem when I bought my Nforce2 board (Abit NF7-S). Naturally, I chalked it up to a faulty motherboard, but then I discovered that unplugging the Radeon 9700Pro's power supply got rid of the squeal (I think you're talking about coil whine, btw). Of course, the computer wouldn't boot ...

Seasonic Super Tornado 400W - what's the best fan mod?

I'm only mildly satisfied with my Seasonic Super Tornado. At the lowest fan speed, it's quiet enough, but the instant I close the case, or put the CPU under load, or even put my hand close to the vent, it starts spinning up and is unacceptably loud. Putting a 80mm Panaflo L1A in the back of the case...
