Hi all One last thing I remember reading it's bad to coil up cords on battery charges as it can cause them to overheat. Does anyone think this would apply to a fanmate if I use a cable tie on it. No, fans don't draw enough current for the gauge wire used for a fanmate to heat the wires. I doubt tha...

You should be able to go directly into the BIOS and set the CPU voltage as low as 0.85v. Just remember that that voltage value is for idle conditions when the CPU multiplier is x6. Undervolting will have very little effect on idle power draw. I doubt that it's possible to change the VID in the CPU. ...

The ambient temperature is the temperature of the room, or more specifically, the temperature of the air entering the PC. Any indoor/outdoor thermometer would work.IDvsEGO wrote: whats a good target to shoot for for ambient temps? also, where is a good place to put the temp probe to take the ambient temps?

I got some doc for you to read: ball bearing vs sleeve bearing That piece dates to Apr 26, 2000, and is very general about bearing types. Today, one of the more current bearing types is Fluid Dynamic Bearings which are very quiet and have a long life. The Zalman 9500 is not a particularly quiet, or...

The minimum VID is a value programed into the CPU. All that can be set in the BIOS is Vcc (CPU voltage). There are three basic settings: Auto - BIOS determines the Vcc - tends to use higher than necessary voltage, Normal - Voltage level setting read from CPU (VID), Manually setting the Vcc. Vcc will...

The additional pins gives a greater current capacity across the connector. This is only a factor if the CPU can draw more current than a 4 pin connector can handle. This will never be an issue with the CPU you are using. It's really only a potential issue with older (pre Conroe) high power consumpti...

These latency issues are most often attributable to MB issues. The best forum for Gigabyte MBs is at Tweak Town (http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/). The bad news is that DPC Latency issues can be miserable to diagnose and fix. If you're lucky a new BIOS rev may fix it. Sometimes people just windup ge...

There isn't much point in discussing cooling solutions until there is some sort of definition of the cooling load. Really. One needs to know the hardware, applications and ambient temperature range the PC will be in to have some idea of what the thermal loads will be. Otherwise the exercise is rathe...

OK, it makes more than no difference, but very little: 2.2% with only a fan running at 1350 RPM. As can be observed from his other graphs, and the quote you include, the effect is highly dependent on the fan's RPM. Once you get into the RPM range of fans in quiet PC's (1000 RPM, or less) there may n...

For some reason people are under the impression that this is all black and white, and it isn't. No application of fans in computers are in free air; there is always an impedance, it just ranges in magnitude. In the case of fans, there is always some degree of leakage between the fan blades and the f...

This is old technology know as thermosyphon: Thermosiphon (alt. thermosyphon) refers to a method of passive heat exchange based on natural convection which circulates liquid without the necessity of a mechanical pump. This circulation can either be open-...
