Ninja SNCJ-1000 for socket 1155 with Noctua backplate, now (2020) on Ryzen AM4
Lots of ppl here still have, use & love SCNJ-1000, otherwise known as the first & best Ninja. Usually on 775 - a v common platform. Especially that the original Ninja uses a sturdy spring-loaded 775 installation mechanism, so much better than the dreaded pushpins, introduced later on by Scythe's sti...

Re: Unlocked Sandy Bridge Dual Core; 2120K
Guys, any news on the launch date of 2120K? Could be a great CPU for those wanting higher clocks, rather than a real quad core. I do hope to see this chip soon in shops

Re: The quest for a silent HTPC PSU
i3 2100 is IMHO way too much for a media player. My puny E3200 handles all HTPC affairs just fine. I don't really monitor it during playback, but never hear its cooler ramping up so I'd assume it just idles for most of the time. So I guess a G620 - a much stronger CPU compared to E3200 - will handle...

MSI P67A-C45 / G45 B3 or Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3 - choice?
MSI P67A-C45 / G45 B3 or Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3 ? Please help me with decision on a 1155 budget board for i5 2500K (possibly i3 2100 at first) Goals: easily a dozen hours daily on, of which about 1 hour gaming; mild OC up to where default Vcore is needed or with just a slight voltage bump if the CPU f...

Re: The quest for a silent HTPC PSU
Well, if you want to cut initial cost and buy 2nd hand/heavily discounted 775 gear then it seems an ok idea. Otherwise getting some new generation mobo+cpu would be more sensible - both in terms of performance and power consumption. Although a properly set 775 gear is definitely power frugal and str...

Wireless network card TP-Link WN350GD no WiFi [solved]
Here's the situation: I have 3 PCs at home, all connected to TP Link WR340G WiFi router. My main PC is connected with a cable, the HTPC connects via a WN350GD wireless card, and my wife's notebook connects via its own wireless card. All PCs run Windows 7 and Kaspersky. Now, I bought a second identic...

Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x
... damn thing doesn't detect my HDTV while it's connect via a DVI-VGA cable ... Try disconnecting the cable from the TV HDTV socket and/or PC DVI socket. I had a similar issue with my TV and 2 mobos (one with DVI, one with HDTV output) and I had all sorts of trouble - the PC couldn't always find t...

Re: Consumer SSD Battle
Why not a single word about TRIM? Why not discuss performance impact or lack thereof?
OTOH, I'm pretty sure that most SPCR readers hunting for a good SSD have already read Anand's reviews and are in the know.

What components are you running? And, more importantly, what case? All of these PSUs will work best when bottom mounted. If your PSU goes on top, as in "older" cases, a unit with a fan would be safer. "Safer" as in "all of these will work great but to be super extra sure, get a unit with a fan". Wha...

A good 300W PSU will be plenty for this system. I'd get a Seasonic S12, either 330W or (for future sake) 380W. The saved money would go to the VGA upgrade fund. 8600 is kinda oldish and can be cheaply upgraded to sth. both beefier and more pwr efficient - e.g. GT220 or GT240, or a Radeon 4670 or som...

That is v good news! Especially the Nibitor settings. So basically there'd be no need to use aftermarket coolers and also v little need to pay for more expensive verions of the card (e.g. MSI Hawk or GB Windfart). Just get the cheapest reference card and mod the bios. Cooooool. Given the VGA's defau...

Welcome to SPCR Now, the pleasantries concluded, you'd best start by browsing the PSU review section and see for yourself what the heatpiped Zalman is worth. Hint - there are plenty quieter, cheaper and simply better PSUs in the market now. How quiet a PSU is depends more on the fan and the fan's c...

With 2 drives in the front you can safely add a front 92 mm fan and run it at constant 600-700 rpm. You won't heat the difference. You could align your HDDs to form sort of a duct to direct air to the VGA. Sure, the card will handle the heat fine, but there's no harm in giving it some air. A faster ...

You can start with reading the extensive P150 review here. P150 = Solo in white. And of course there are plenty of happy Solo users here. This setup will run perfectly OK on a quality 500W*. If you want to OC it very heavily, both CPU and VGA, then maybe a 600W would be a little safer. In idle you'll be probably drawing around 130W, and <300W when playing games. These are number at the wall, so your PSU will be actually feeding ca 15%...

AFAIK 58xx series cards come with dual PCI-E 6 pin connectors. I don't think this kind of load can be handled with a fanless cooler. And I think the power consumption on 67xx to provide this level of performance will not be dramatically lower. A pity no VGA manufacturer has come up with a card that ...

Tell us what exactly you're going to run (CPU, VGA, drives) and you'll get a very accurate prediction of wattage. And knowing your wattage you'll be able to pick the optimal PSU. Optimal meaning that it'll have enough power to fuel your rig, will be ultra quiet (or even effectively silent) at low lo...

Re: Passive cooling for a 45W Athlon II X2?
The reason why I chose that PSU is because it's the only one in its price range with 9x SATA plugs , while still remaining (mostly) very quiet. If you don't mind a little cable mess you could use molex > SATA converters (connectors?) to feed power to HDDs. There are also cables that will split a si...

WD AV-GP WD5000AVVS 8MB cache, 500GB. 3.5" in their AV streaming line runs between 5400 and 7200rpm Just curious - are you trying to say it has variable speed (as WD marketoids would like us to believe) or that it's speed is constant but impossible to specify clearly, with the range being 5400-7200...
