It's really definitely not a "hum" (don't know if this is a generic term or if it relates to the actual noise it makes), rather a hi-frequency whine/hiss.

Ok. 1.) Do they hiss when turned on and the input plug(s) are are disconnected from any source? If they don't hiss, it's not the speakers. I'm pretty sure they will, since they hiss even when the computer is turned off. I'm going to try that anyway. 2.) If they start to his when plugged into your p...

Hissing speakers

Hi I bought some time ago a set of Creative P5800 speakers (5.1) and I'm really getting tired of the (almost) constant hissing they make. I've tried the usual tweakings : muting mic/line-in, nothing works. What's more, I've tried to connect my sound card to my stereo and there is no interference; my...

Re: Looking for opinions: Antec Solo or P150

I'm building a quiet(ish), low availability, home server for someone, and am looking at Antec cases- is there a significant difference between the Solo or the P150, aside from the included P/S in the latter? I don't really see much difference, but was wondering if one was quieter, better built, eas...

Also with HX 620 gives me change keep same PSU for years. Granted HD 2900 Pro takes a lot power 8pin + 6 pin PCI-E's. So HX 620 is safer choice. It's not safer. If you have enough power with 520W, you have enough power. Adding 100 useless watts, is not "safer". HD 2900 Pro is hot card, I mean it is...

What is a "gamer case" exactly ? The question you need to ask yourself is "how much power do I need to dissipate?". Since you're posting on SPCR, I assume your goal is to do that while limiting the amount of noise as much as possible. Since you're not planning for SLI or overclocking apparently : 1)...

Why do you need so many (non-undervolted) fan for your gaming rig ? What are your temps ? I'm asking because I have the feeling mine dissipates quite a lot of power too, and still, I get to reasonable temperatures with less fans, all undervolted (and 2 drives more). EDIT : As for answering your ques...

I guess I am, if I take into account the considerable amount of heat my system dissipates. My rig is very quiet, though not silent. If I don't specifically pay attention, it never bothers me. Plus, HDDs are inaudible and the noise is constant, whatever I do, which are a nice feature for a quiet syst...

You don't have to aim at an old Pentium to do the job (especially not a P4). AMD has a line of cheap Athlon 64 X2"energy-efficient" CPUs that don't dissipate more than 45W ( this one for instance ). A file server shouldn't ask much from it anyway. With such low consumption, you might want to take a ...

High-power vs. Low-power PSUs

Maybe a dumb question but... With the same case configuration and the same system, should I expect the Antec Neo HE 550W to be quieter than the 430W model ? In other words, will its components heaten slower than the less powerful model ?

Thanks

1) Not all of Samsung and Seagate products are quiet. You should check on a model-per-model basis (and even check the motor type in some cases). Enabling AAM (if supported) could help a little. You can also enclose your drives in silent enclosures (Scythe makes some, take a look at the SmartDrive 20...

Rubber screws n00b question

Hi I'm still waiting for some parts to build my new system, and for now, I'm just getting ready for all the new stuff I haven't really done before (cable management, rubber screw fan mounting...). As far as the latter is concerned, I find it quite difficult to secure the fans to the case using those...
