Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

Thanks for this insight, CA_Steve, that's somehow encouraging :)

As written above, I did try raising the case fans speed, with little results. If I understand you correctly, my last hope to avoid an RMA is that the M12-PS are crap.

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

Playing Far Cry 3 in 1920x1200 with full details got the GPU to more than 80°C and, yet again, it was too loud...

I'll start by comparing my cards to other cards, in some of my friends' cases. If my card is excessively hotter in the same setups, I'll RMA it.

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

I tried with both case fans running at 1000RPM. It got better (Furmark wouldn't make it crash), but it was still much too loud. The GPU fans were running at 3000RPM and the temperature almost reached 90°C. I'm starting to think that the case fans are crap, CFM-wise. I'll give it a shot with my good ...

I'm still struggling to understand how two small, thin fans spinning at 2220RPM could produce but 16dB... That sounds like sheer wizardry to my ears.

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

The expansion slot covers are all ventilated. This is possibly allowing air from the middle fan to bypass the graphics card and head straight out and for warm air from the graphics card to not be expelled instead. You could try covering them up and seeing if it makes it cooler. Then try sealing the...

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

Given how hot graphics cards can be, it should be a separate chamber for the slots as well. Just to make sure it's the case airflow that's insufficient and there's nothing wrong with the card, have you tried running it with the case open, just for testing? Yep ! It's still very hot and noisy, but i...

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

Agreed 40°C is cool compared to mine at 49°C idle I can only think its recirculating the air its generating when it starts to get hot. I would suggest trying to work out how the air is flowing inside the case, either using smoke or trying to feel where its drawing its air in from the out side. That...

CA_Steve wrote:Sort of sounds like the cooler isn't mounted well on the gpu. What are you seeing for idle temps?
40°C

I cannot imagine how it could be not well mounted, since I cross-checked it; I don't think it's easy not to mount it well, really.

Thanks for your reply, I'll check the temperatures around the card as you advise. As for the card's design, I'll copy the picture from SPCR's review : http://www.silentpcreview.com/files/images/asus-gtx670/07.jpg Not sure how I could detect some manufacturing defect. I don't really want to tear it a...

Hot & Noisy Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II

As explained in the thread about my new gaming build , my graphic card makes a lot of heat and, of course, a lot of noise. Running Furmark for a few minutes pushes the GPU to more than 90°C and the fans ramp up accordingly (~90%). This is of course NOT what I had foreseen, having read SPCR's review ...

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

What temps are your reaching before crashing, a HWmoitor screen would be great, with CPU/Chispset/GPU. Last time I checked, I was around 90°C. I just tried again, same results, except that I stopped the test before crashing; the temperature gets out of control, even though the GPU fans ramp up to 8...

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

I seem to recall that the stock fan of the Thermalright Macho isn't quite that good. If this is true, you should buy another fan, preferably a PWM fan. I just reread the review, and it's true that the fan could be better. I'll see how it performs, but as long as it keeps spinning slowly and is more...

From my current build, I'm keeping : * Antec P183 (SPCR Recomended) * Antec CP-850 (SPCR Editor's Choice): There are many quieter or ev...

Torajirou's silent HTPC/NAS cabinet

In a previous thread, I showed how I managed to make my HTPC quiet . Re: [Finished - Final pics]Torajirou's quiet HTPC

I probably could, but I don't really see the added value; I'm pretty sure I wouldn't hear much difference (this is already VERY VERY quiet) and I would probably have to add two or three fanmates to do the trick (I have a couple of them lying around, but I'm not sure where exactly :p).
