It has nothing to do with speed, it has to do with having a usable driver for the two extra ports.
The flash is safe and entirely reversible (if it fails so badly you can't reflash it, how the hell are they going to find out you've flashed it?).

Re: HP MicroServer
I was hoping they had a fix for the eSATA hotpluging issue I hadn't had an opportunity to test issue with a slightly different chipset. If it's the same BIOS and not just ones with the same user-configurable options, I guess I shouldn't waste my time testing that. If nothing else the PSU is also no...

If you'll look closer they all say 'RS780 Host Bridge Alternate', which was the incorrect name given to 1022:9601. If you check the lspci output above, you'll see 1022:9601 as RS880. Hint: The name is stored in a regularly incorrect and regularly updated text file. So I suppose you were in a way cor...

Hey guys, a little reality check: It is only foam . A utility knife with a fresh blade can be used to easily cut away a portion of the foam that interferes with the heatsink. With this little mod, there's hardly a heatsink the case would not fit, and the impact on noise would be a big fat zero. But...

Everyone actually does there are zero slient aftermarket coolers that will accept 120mm fan that are below 158mm in height. What do you call a Scythe Ninja then? I notice that there's no way out for the USB 3.0 cable without taking it across the motherboard. Why can't they just cut a small slot out above the fan?

Modern HDDs require relatively little cooling, and statistics show a higher failure rate for overly cooled drives.

Re: why did itanium fail?
Probably due to scalability. The off-die memory controller used by early Intel x86_64 implementations does not scale to multi-socket systems well at all. The K8 and especially K10 cores scale extremely well. Torvals refers to the "PAE crud". The other article refers to that as "a major kludge in th...

I haven't read the article, but Hammer was the codename for the K8 design. Which is the AMD64. Hence the early core names of Sledgehammer and Clawhammer. Intel use a slightly modified implementation, originally codenamed Yamhill. Yes. I noticed that after the fact. It still seems like Torvalds find...

Intel already makes (and sells) many x86-64 I get the impression from the Torvalds article that there are two x86 64 bit implementations. Intel only makes a disabled version available on the market. The other, I think the article refers to as the Hammer, exists but you can't buy it. Apparently Torv...

The only major issue with HDMI is the weak connector. CEC is a bit annoying, though. The Windows implementation of audio, along with the likes of Realtek, ATI, nVidia, and Creative, is crap, but then, Windows has had an utterly laughable audio (.. actually, all APIs, ABIs, and driver) stack since da...

Partition alignment has nothing whatsoever to do with readability of the data. Whether it's correctly aligned or not, automatically or otherwise, you will not have any issues accessing data on the drive.

I understand Windows 7 and Windows XP read and write data to HDD in different ways. Since this seagate 2TB HDD will be used in an XP computer first, data would be written to it using XP method. Then when I shift the same HDD (with data) to a Win7 computer, data would be read using the Win 7 method....
