I checked, the 'auto' voltage is about 1.17 idle / 1.12 load. When I manually set this, it won't even do 3.33ghz without a sudden reboot or if I'm lucky a Prime95 error after only a short time. At default voltage and speed I get these temps (CoreTemp and RealTemp values, they're nearly identical): -...

I was kinda hoping that too; some ram / nb setting.. Seems my E8400 (one of the first batches they made) just isn't a speed king. As for ram / nb stability, I lowered the cpu multiplier to 7 (x444) and everything is stable, but at 9x444 it really does need a lot of voltage. I doubt the step from 7 t...

The rebuild is complete and I did mount the ninja again. I figured a bit more pre tension on the springs in the thermalright kit might help so i put a ~3mm spacer between the screw head and the spring. This does bend the Ninja mounting plate somewhat but it felt secure.. As expected though the resul...

Cool to the touch Ninja despite 1.5V dual core.. Odd or not?
Hello! I have a core 2 duo 8400, cooled by a Ninja rev b, fitted with a Thermalright BoltThru kit, with the original Ninja fan hard wired at 5 volts, which if http://www.silentpcreview.com/article832-page3.html is right means 720rpm. I'm a little confused though. At 1.5 volt in the bios, the cpu run...

3 pin Y cable; two fans on one header, does that work?
Hi folks,
I'm too electrically challenged.. would this http://www.azerty.nl/0-246-34915/3-pin- ... kabel.html not only allow me to attach two fans to one header, but also still control fanspeed with Speedfan or will it be a big mess and a bad result?
Thanks..
Niels

Enermax Pro82; fan clearance to heatsinks?
Hello, I'm considering getting one of those Enermax PSUs, if the specs are right and the fan spins at 450rpm until 50% load, that should be pretty silent. Since the fan is PWM, there aren't too much replacement candidates. Being good and all, its still ball bearing and I suspect on average not quite...

yeah the hole saw way look so easy http://youtube.com/watch?v=7wGlWZ24QsE Sure does, but aluminium is about 10x easier to cut than steel.. Plus my drill has binary speed regulation, its either 0rpm or 3000, which might not be all too suitable.. It does seem an option to go for round holes and borro...

Using a jigsaw to mod a metal case?
Hello! I'm thinking of doing something like http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51264 i.e. cutting some holes in my case. I'm a bit tool challenged; my cheapo dremel will take AGES. I do however own a decent jigsaw which also comes with a few blades for 'metal' use.. I could drill a...

You are likely to find a just as decent board that has passive chipset cooling. This one looks expensive and overclocky which has been proven time and time again to be mostly nonsense; often any decent board will perform more or less the same. I would avoid any mainboard with fan cooled chipsets as ...

The 'funny' thing is, there probably isn't even a NEED for using Speedfan as the fans even when inaudible (psu 650rpm, case/cpu fan at 500rpm) temperatures struggle to hit 50c, only when both cores are stressed a while with Prime95. I'm still happy that it (speedfan) exists to have some failsafe, sh...

Fair enough, if Alfredo had the time he could probably add a few methods of fan speed control. Basically then there are 3 speeds we can use with the current Speedfan lowest speed: below desired temp medium speed: above desired temp max speed: at and above warning temp That is probably flexible enoug...

OK, so you are saying that if the min fan speed is 50% and the max is 75% and the delta is 3% you don't see it go 50, 53, 56, 59, 62, 65, 68, 71, 74, 75 over a space of tens of seconds? It literally switches from 50 to 75 in one jump? If so, is the fan a 4 pin PWM or a 3 pin? Its pretty hard to kee...

Thanks for the reply. 1. Your fan at full speed is not fast enough to cool the monitored item therefore it will never cool off to the specified temp. That is not the issue here, temperature can be kept nicely under control. That is the reason I set the desired temp to 26; because the actual temp was...

Thanks.. The delta value doesn't change it; at 1% it just takes longer but eventually only being 1 degree above the desired temp will end up at near or full speed fans. I've also kept it simple, speed 1 and 2 are just tied to one temperature (the cpu socket temp sensor). Shame! Its got to be a softw...

Speedfan sets max speed even when FAR from 'Warning Temp'
Hiya, I build a HTPC and I'm using SpeedFan to control the fan speeds. I get a great range of speeds (standstill to max rpm) when manually changing the speeds between 0% and 100%. I followed this guide: http://unitstep.net/blog/2007/11/02/using-speedfan-to-automatically-control-your-pcs-fan-speeds/ ...

Enhance makes really good products but Anandtech isn't that specialized in accurate sound readings. Fan RPM would give some more clue. Some ranges of powersupplies seem to have the same % load vs fan speed curve, if a 400W psu starts ramping the fan up at 200W, its 300W sister might do so at 150W Fr...

While the original Ninja has those gaps in the fins, this one hasn't. With the original and a Thermalright BoltThru kit, you can insert a long screwdriver through the gaps and tighten the screws. I can't see how you could use the same Thermalright BoltThru kit on this one, as you have nowhere to sti...

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: supported by speedfan yet?
Reviewd by SPCR, the board is pretty nice but no fan control in Speedfan was a downside. My case is so packed, I'd have to take most of the system apart in order to get access to a fan header to see if Speedfan 4.37 now works with one or more of the fan headers on this board.. So has anyone tried sp...

Given some time I have another upgrade in the works. I will create a 120 mm hole in the bottom of the case and raise its feet a cm of two, and use a 120mm fan as bottom intake fan, which will aim directly on the gfx heatsink. Then I will close the front intakes, the lower 2/3rds of them anyway, and ...

Antec seems to fit the NSK3480 with a few versions of powersupplies. This review shows one with tall extruded heatsinks: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/antec_nsk3480_microatx_case/4.htm and mine has bent aluminium plates, which are also not tall; you could fit a 120mm psu on top of them; al...
