Your other option would be to consider the mCubed 280w psu. It comes with the external brick (fanless) and uses a mounting plate for the hardware which fits where your psu ordinarily goes. That would give you enough headroom if you change your mind about a graphics card or whatever else might happen...

I think the short answer is that the XP90 uses the 478 style retention clips, so it will only fit if you have that style of mount on your mobo. What mobo is it? But it seems from the discussion above that most 479 mobos use the 478 mount. As I understand it, the socket number refers to the number of...

In my last set up I hung the computer under the desk. Keeps it way off the floor and made a big difference noise wise. Also it's harder to see and doesn't get in the way of your feet under the desk. Obviously there are a billion ways to do it, but what I did was hang a tray under the desk for the pu...

Hi all, here's anonther interesting thing. I observed my temps from start up this morning - one core starts at 54C. The temp in the room is about 5C at that time of the morning, so it's coming off a cool base! I ran cpu stability test for a while. The core will go above 54C but won't drop below. I s...

You can. My mCubed is a 20 pin and the mobo is a 24. I just bought one of these: ebaylink Seems to work fine. If you search there is some discussion here about it, like this: "You can get a 20-24 pin converter cable, but most of the time it's not necessary, the 20-pin male connector fits into the 24...

182w sounds a bit high to me, especially if you're using the onboard graphics. I'm using an mCubed 200w fanless which has a rated peak of 280w. My system in my sig below has an idle power draw is 49-59w, at load up to 74w. I can't get it up to 100w. If you want to see the mCubed have a look at mine ...

Hi Valnar, I've been following your thread with interest. Just to add to the list, I've got a Q9300 which idles at 50/54C. It has a ninja mini with a noctua fan next to it in a fusion case. Also the quad is a replacement for an E8200 which I tried out with the stock cooler. It's idle temps were also...

But it is true that if you produce exactly the same sound and play it out of phase the two will cancell each other out. In theory you could cancell your fan noise by recording it and playing it back. Maybe you could install a small mp3 player and speaker inside your PC and just get phase cancellatio...

Here's one in Germany: ebay item 300225908815
Or you could ask this seller if they'll post to you: ebay item 150250572038
Also my neighbour builds computers from home for a living (ailean online) and had some in stock a year or so ago. I'll ask him if he's got one left.

Anyone heard the new Hitachi 7K320 notebook HDD?
Hi all,
My local tech just told me that Hitachi have recently released a new range of notebook HDDs, the 7K320. These have up to 320GB, but the 250 and 320GB versions have 2 platters. Link: 7K320 specs pdf.
Has anyone heard one of these?
Cheers

Hmmm... generally hard flat surfaces bounce sound back. You want lots of uneven surfaces. But not soft stuff over the top of hard surfaces (like egg cartons) because the sound goes throught it and still bounces around. So you're in a bind - uneven stuff will generally collect dust. But there's alway...

I think that will be a top sounding set up. If you're going to spend the cash on those speakers it's also worth thinking about the room rather than relying on calibration too much. Measuring power consumption
Hi all, I thought I would measure the power consumption of my system using a kill-a-watt thing, but I can't get any difference between idle and load. It generally fluctuates between 81-97w. I tried CPUstabilitytest and ran my protools software at full tilt to make sure both drives were going (and sp...

You're right, flexibility might be good. You might even be able to keep your drives in a standard 3.5" bay (like in the antec fusion case) but wrapped up. I like your thinking... but are you reinventing boxes like the scythe quiet drive? link to scythe It may be foam rather than silicone gel, but essentially the scythe encases your drive in heat absorbing/vibration damping material and puts it in a box. Thank you all for your help, it really makes things easier. Yep, music is the thing so the E8200 is the go.
