Thank you line. A third again in power consumption - well, I'd have to notice that! The Q9300 is the one to get.

Which is cooler - the Q6600 or Q9300? Enough to matter?
Hi all, Tomorrow I'm going to update the Mobo/cpu in my system, which you can see here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43893&highlight=0db I'll use a Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R Mobo and I'm trying to decide between the Q6600 and Q9300 processors. Both will do what I need easily, but...

You're right, it would be a waste to buy a surround amp for two speakers. But old stereo amps are a dime a dozen and usually they sound just fine. Here's some examples of completed listings so you can see what can be bought for about 20-30 Euros that will sound fine: old dual amp technics amp I'm us...

Hi there puffi, you can get the specs for your speakers here: http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/display.aspx?infid=773&pid=1842 I think the 2001 was a small bookshelf speaker. Should be quite a nice pair, B&W make respectable gear (eg they do Jaguar car audio). There's no way your sound card will have e...

Thanks for the suggestion ntavlas, I don't know why I didn't think of it myself! I put an 80mm fan blowing across the dimm/northbridge and tried the same with the gpu. Unfortunately it didn't fix the crashes. Oh well, these things just take time to sort out don't they? http://grapevine.com.au/~clubm...

Will updating to this MOBO/cpu increase power too much?
Hi all, I’m about to update my mobo/processor and was wondering if anyone has an opinion about the choice. I’m using an mCubed 200w external PSU so my primary concern is whether the power consumption will be too high. You can see the my machine here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopi...

Hi there Namheul, mine measures just a tiny bit over 116mm, maybe 116.1mm, from the flat surface of the mobo to the highest point of the mini ninja. You can see it here: viewtopic.php?t=43893&highlight=potsy

Yep, it is a bit steep - but at least you get to buy in pounds sterling. Multiply by 2.6 for the price in poor old Aussie dollars! I think the shape of the circuit board might be designed to fit in the mini chassis, but it comes supplied with a plate which fits any case - that black plate you see in...

If the Andyson is max 180w I reckon you should think about a psu with an external brick. See the threads about the pico supply. I'm using an mCubed 200w (it says 280w peak) which you can see here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43893 I've had it 3 months with no problems, it wa...

Vibration mounts... for a turntable.
I think this is about the right place to post this, hope its ok with everybody. I'm trying to replace the vibration mounts on an old turntable I'm restoring and I figured people here might have some helpful ideas after using the same sort of material as feet for cases etc. I once had a computer with...

Sometimes it's not that high end stuff is so much better, but that low end stuff might be really crap. There was a fun article in Audio Technology Magazine (issue 54) by a bloke who owns a mastering studio. He found a $500 IEC power lead in a fancy audiophile showroom. Yep, $500 for a jug cord. He b...

Hi there cutoff, doesn't really answer your specific questions, but here's how I dealt with it: viewtopic.php?t=43893
Hope that's some help - it's not flash by gamers standards, but there's plenty of power to record/edit/mix with protools.

Mike, yep, point taken. It's probably because I'm keeping it in a box - the stock psu was blowing it out the back of the case but when the box is shut the heat has nowhere to go (at least not quickly). But having said that I guess that without the hot air from the psu in the rack it just takes a bit...

Ok ok, I just said 0db to bait you! But at last I've finished a rig I'm happy with and which I can't hear unless I really concentrate. First up thanks to all of you who have helped. I've had a few questions about drives, sinks and PSUs and without silentpcreview it wouldn't have happened. I use my m...

Hi all, I have a system in an Antec Fusion case.
