Re: Alternative fans for Twin Turbo

Thanks again, Seb. I think I'll give the Xilence 92mm a shot and see how they fare. If they aren't up to snuff I'll get a couple of Arctic Cooling, and I'll have wasted £9, which is still less than the cost of one S-Flex.

I'll post on here when I've tested them :)

Re: Alternative fans for Twin Turbo

Thanks for the replies. Strangely enough, the fans on the Twin Turbo have quietened down again. I'm guessing that having them running at 55% for the 10 or so hours I was playing Borderlands yesterday has done something to them. I'll not assume that they'll stay quiet though, so I'm still considering...

Alternative fans for Twin Turbo

Wanted to enquire whether there are any decent 80mm or maybe 92mm fans that would make a suitable, and quieter replacement for the fans on an Accelero Twin Turbo. They seem to have become noisier recently, and I've replaced the fan part of the cooler once already because the first set that came with...

Re: Need advise what to do with my pc

I'm going to second HFat's advice that you get a SSD. My setup is similar to your own, and it's still running great for me. She's not the most up to date machine but she handles the games I play (L4D, L4D2, Borderlands, Dead Space) with no problems and she runs pretty much 24/7. Maybe an SSD would g...

An important point for anyone considering buying the Caviar Blue 1TB. Be sure to take note of what seems like a rather large number of DOA's and failures regarding this particular drive. My better half bought two from Newegg. When it came to building the computer it was discovered one was DOA. The o...

Just wanted to post the HD Tach results from my fiancee's Caviar Blue 1TB drive. This was a long bench test on a completely fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit, so no other programs were installed except HD Tach. The drive isn't partitioned, and I'm assuming from the random access time that AAM is off...

@thegrommit - Thanks for the info. My fiancee bought two from Newegg while they were $65. I'll be installing one via suspension in the bottom of the case, and the other will be used for backing up, possibly using a usb 3 external enclosure.

@kuzzia - Thanks for the recommendation re: case fans. My fiancee had already opted for them herself, which was nice, 'cause I was loathe to say she should consider them as the price is a a little spicey for my taste  I know what you mean about reviews. I keep searching from time to time and no...

@bskd - Thanks again for your input. I think we'll stick with the 620 version. It's only a matter of $10 difference, and maybe leaves her with more options for upgrading in the future, providing the PSU lasts long enough. You're English is fine BTW. :) @widdlecat - Thanks for the recommendation, but...

Re: Advice on a few components, please.

FYI, 5850 has exactly the same power consumption under load as 4850. :) Thanks bskd. Does that mean that the PSU is always going to be overkill? As it stands, I've managed to talk her into buying a 5770 instead of the 4850 (which means her rig will kick my rigs ass in every department now, lol), bu...

Advice on a few components, please.

Hi guys My fiancee will be purchasing the parts from Newegg for a new rig soon, and while I've managed to figure out most things, I could use your input on a few remaining parts. I'll list what has been decided on first: Case - Antec Three Hundred (seems to do me fine) PSU - Seasonic M12II 620 CPU -...

Hi ace111, and welcome to SPCR! :) Thanks for the compliment. I've never tried the fan setup that you asked about, but if you try it yourself, I'd be interested to read about your results. I used double sided sticky tape (normally used for carpets) to attach the foam on the top of the case. It keeps...

It's maybe not a matter of wasted suffering, but unnecessary suffering. But if suffering provides us with the opportunity to learn from it, then suffering is not the bigger issue. It's the fact that we don't learn the lessons from suffering that we should. As the saying goes, "those that do not lear...

My pleasure. It's sometimes helpful for me to express my opinons. Though I try to keep in mind that I (a) shouldn't expect them to be agreed with, and (b) there are over 6.5 billion people on this planet, so what makes me or my opinion special, lol. Suffering seems to be a byproduct of existing, and...

I just wanted to say thanks for expressing this opinion, if for no other reason than it makes me feel less alone in my view of things. I must say that the results for the Hyper 212+ has piqued my interest, as has the debate regarding the Nexus fan being used on that heatsink with a high TDP cpu. After a little research I've figured I could probably get the Hyper 212+ and two Nexus 120's for marginally more (once P+P is factored in)...

At present I have three Nexus 120mm fans (two front intake and one rear exhaust) all running on one header at around 580rpm, along with a Nexus 92mm at around 730rpm cooling my CPU, and two 80mm fans on my Accelero Twin Turbo at (and I'm guesstimating here) 500rpm. At the moment the GPU and the HDD are equally as loud. Though the HDD is the more prominent of the two due to it being closer to the front of the case. Their combined noise is still nowhere near loud. It's more of a humming sound than anything else. I sleep with my head about 1.5 metres away from th...

I was having the same issue with the ram heatsinks on my Accelero Twin Turbo. Rubbing over the "adhesive" with isopropyl alcohol (and letting it dry off) seemed to help increase their stickyness, all but one of them stayed on with no issue. Thanks Darth Santa Fe :) I figured it was something like that, seeing as the stock fan registered okay at all speeds. I'll leave it at 41% and not worry about the rpm reading. There's no need for me to set it any higher anyway, as my 4850 never gets even close to 50C when gaming now, and stays at a ...

Accelero Twin Turbo fan readings

I installed my Twin Turbo yesterday, and have noticed that GPU-Z can't seem to give an accurate reading if I set the fan speed at anything below 50% in Ati Overdrive. The plot thickens, because when it's set at 50% the reading is stable at around 610 rpm. But the specifications for the Twin Turbo st...

After several hours of work, I finally got the new parts in my rig today. Which meant finding a solution...
