I've personally tried the panaflos and nexus in 80mm. The nexus is definitely more quiet, but moves the least amount of air (feels that way at least). Don't think you can go wrong w/ either though. Afraid I can't offer much feedback for the Sanyo Denki, but there is plenty of information both on the...

try and find out what's making the most noise? most people here recommend stopping some of the other fans for a few seconds in order to isolate the sound. You can always boot with some of the fans unplugged. Doing that, along w/ unplugging your hard drives will definitely be helpful in noise isolati...

yeah, there are three models; 6800, 6800GT and 6800Ultra. 6800NU is the same as a regular 6800.

A 6800LE was supposed to happen, but never was released... perhaps in the future?

Forgive me for any confusion! haha.

First off, gotta give a BIG thanks to everyone in this forum for all the fantastic advice. The willingness of this community to help each other is certainly unparalleled and definitely welcome.. it is actually just a regular 6800NU, not an LE as some people have speculated. I just got one last week from newegg and it came w/ the old bios which only had 8 pipelines enabled. In order to get 12 pipelines enabled, I had to flash the bios. There's a review here (although not very comprehensive):...

The slotted fan casing looks interesting. Do you think this could be used as a mod for 120mms? Is the resulting effectiveness worth a try or is it just flashy?

Samsung spinpoints are the way to go! Do a search and you'll find plenty of info on them. Just make sure you get one equipped w/ a nidec motor.

I'm personally skeptical that raid will have much effect on desktop performance. Check anandtech for a recent article which backs up that claim.

Get the AlCu, the value is definitely worth it. I went from a Silent Boost over to a Zalman unit (running at 5v), and while my temps went up a bit, the corresponding sound decrease was incredible. I dunno if my particular silent boost was faulty, but judging from other people's experiences, the loud...

If the silentx 120mm models are anything like the ADDA fans supplied w/ the Lian-Li V1000 series, I'd have to say I prefer my Papst 4412s over them.

I hear the ADDA fans respond well to PWM, but for straight undervolting (5V), my Papst beats out the ADDA in both sound AND airflow.

I don't think any production environment should run an overclocked machine. If its absolutely critical, the extra performance would not be worth the risks. On top of that, if such an organization does in fact require cutting edge performance, they should allocate the funds necessary for the hardware.

if you download the iso from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/, it includes a bunch of utilities in the bootdisk. One of the included utilities is the IBM/Hitachi Feature Tool which will allow you to manipulate AAM settings. This works for Samsung drives. This utility is generally platform independent;...

actually, i was one of the people posting about a buzzing phantom. Turns out, it wasn't the phantom itself, but actually the USB port ABOVE the phantom!

So, having said that, the phantom is a solid recommendation from me. I'm sure both units must be quite good though.

nforce 5.10 causes PSU (antec phantom) whine?

Okidoki, not quite sure where this goes but anyways... So I installed the nforce 5.10 unified last night and right afterwards, I realized that my PSU, an Antec Phantom, started exhibiting a rather annoying whine. It's a high-pitched noise, but it goes away after I use audio such as playing an mp3, a...

if you're trying that i THINK you're trying, it's a cool concept, but hard to visualize w/o seeing placement of the CPU to the rest of the case and components.

Sounds like the first obstacle would be dealing w/ the backpanel by the processor?
