My experience agrees with silvervarg. I have never had a crash when adjusting the FSB with 8rdavcore with the limits that I use 60MHz and 133MHz (5x Multiplier so 300MHz to 665 MHz). I always use autoFSB to reduce FSB, but always drag up the FSB with the slider when increasing FSB as with the settin...

Have you tried using 8rdavcore. I had exactly the same experience http://www.silentpcreview.com/article164-page1.html but use that prog to get around the problem. I get it to boot at 1.275V, run 8rdavcore at start up and drag the Vcore straight down to 1,1V.

Pragmatically, going back to your original question, I suspect a multiplier unlocked XP (e.g. Mobile XP) might be the best bet. See http://www.silentpcreview.com/article164-page1.html for what I have done. This gives a range from 300MHz to probably over 2000MHz. So very low energy when word processi...

See http://www.heroichi.com.tw/product/product_b.asp?id=21 for more detailed specs. I have a version with a 6A19 http://www.silentpcreview.com/article164-page1.html which is not particularly quiet but performs well. A similar PSU got good reviews at Toms http://www17.tomshardware.com/howto/20021021/...

With a couple of Y-splitters (see http://www.koolnquiet.co.uk/index.php?main=product&id=76&cat_id=19 for example) you will be able to control four fan speeds even with the limitations of a NF7-S, though you can only read the RPM of two fans. As regard to 8rdavcore try searching these forums for advi...

IMHO the fan speed controller with the best looking face plate and an off position is SpeedFan http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php or 8rdavcore http://www.hasw.net/8rdavcore/ if your Mobo will work with it.

I have always found Paul from KoolnQuiet very helpful and am very happy with the system he supplied (see http://www.silentpcreview.com/article164-page1.html).

How low can you go?
For reasons illustrated in http://www.silentpcreview.com/article164-page1.html I was wondering what the minimum voltage/clock is with A64s. Are these systems useable for Word, etc at for example 0.8v/300MHz.

mpteach When runnning Word (120,000 word thesis) and Win98 CD player there no significant loss in useability at 300MHz. I do not tend to use the AutoFSB to increase the clock. I tend to switch off AutoFSB and drag the FSB to 133MHz manually, when I have done this Neverwinter Nights plays fine. crypt...

I have not got all the AutoFSB settings handy but the key one is the Min FSB at 60MHz. You get this by dragging the slider in 8rdavcore down. The button does not work below 100MHz. I would try this in stages until you know what your set up will cope with. Given the design of the Zalman CNPS5100-AlCu...

Low energy and gaming
With my setup you can have low energy and gaming, except not at the same time. It will play Halo @1024x768 with everything at default values.

Graphics Card Energy Consumption
I am planning a new system that will play games well, but use as little energy as possible and have pretty much decided the specs, but am having difficulty getting information on the energy consumption of graphics cards to make and energy consumption/performance decision. I am less concerned about q...
