confirmed, the Seagate warranty (and many other manufacturers) are cutting down to only 1 year, how sad=(. Seagates start on all drive made on or after Oct 1 (or something like that). That means most of the new Cuda V's will only be warranted for 1 year, sigh.

especially as I've followed this site since its birth and a fellow quiet enthusiast, I really appreciate the great work Mike has put into the site. I've learned a lot from this site and his advice.

The WD drives as I recall had the highest objective noise test results on storagereview.com. Although objective sound measurements are extremely suspect to errors, I'd say its safe to say the WD's are by no means a quiet drive. Stick with maxtor fluids or seagate, I hear the cuda's fixed the raid 0 ...

Its definately audible, its sort of like a soft clicking. I think IBM harddrives have more quiet seeking, but louder idle noise with AAM turned on. Also to note is that Seagate harddrives have very little difference between AAM on and AAM off, wheras the IBM's are MUCH quieter in seek with AAM on. W...

Out of the box no mods they are probably the best amd cpu cooler thats also quiet, however with a small amount of effort I prefre the likes of AX7, PAL8045, MCX462, and SLK-800 with a undervolted panaflo 80mm for their even lower noise and slightly better cooling, and better clip. Zalman uses single...

I would think the vantecs are quieter in the 60mm flavor, and if it is true they are cheaper its a no brainer, since I believe they also come with a 3-4pin adapter to sweeten the deal. Correct me if I am wrong please=).

IMHO 60mm fans are too small to quietly cool the hotter modern processors, however you can try the vantec stealth w/ sk6 and try a undervolt of ~0.2v and see if you can get acceptable temps with that. If you can't you really need to upgrade to bigger heatsinks with 80mm fans (at least, bigger if pos...

I'd have to agree with Mike, the only advantage to heatpipe is to move the heat to another location for space reasons. If the argument is moving the heat from the bottom to the top of the heatsink thats BS, why not make it go straight up the heatsink, it doesn't get there any faster just because it ...

yea I'd say the majority of users who get this heatsink would use a 80mm fan since its a expensive performance heatsink to begin with, however I don't think it is hurting the performance by designing it to accomodate all of the above, all they have to do is make the "stairs" at the edge of the top a...

I used to have a silverado and can honestly say I was not impressed. First, its expensive. Second, its ugly (subjective). Third, its ~450grams yet only uses a single lug clip, and is very tall to boot. Fourth, at 6v it is fairly quiet but not as quiet as a panaflo at 7v, which combined with a AX7 or...

I also have used both a 40 gig and a 80 gig cuda IV, but I haven't tested them side by side. From my unreliable experience, I would say I DID notice a small increase in noise and maybe ~3c hotter for the 80gig version. Pity the Cuda V is rated louder, coz I've filled my cuda 80gig to the brim and co...

Any news on Barracuda V yet?

Well the last time I remember Seagate announced that the Barracuda V would be released in August, and obviously it is now September. Whats up? I don't see any Cuda V's yet, any info on their release or more importantly on their general availability date??

Yes indeed, your results were very interesting. One thing I would have liked to have seen is comparing temps with both lids (the covered one and the enermax one with the hole) to see if the covered one gave a better 'tunnel' effect as you describe. I mean, I run my enermax with my 92mm fan removed a...

Yes, this will work but you will need to unclock and unvolt quite a bit. I can barely run a duron 750 @ 800 @1.47vcore passively. You'd probably have to go down to similar levels. I use Alpha 8045 and AS2 with decent but not excessive case cooling. Also, it is quite difficult (but very possible!) to...
