If you want to go with a Gigabyte board they have what they call their "GC-SATA" connector that fits in a rear expansion slot opening (but doesn't plug into a PCI slot). A SATA cable and power cable connect to the GC-SATA on the inside. You could then you run another SATA and power cable from the ba...

Re: Mini-Itx Pentium M

Hi, have any one heard about this company and its products? http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboards/display/20031219083953.html Sounds like a great base for an HTPC, but what is an "mini-apg" slot? According to this page: http://www.epiacenter.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=95 Mini-AGP ...

I have a related question... I have some "4-pin" fans that I'd like to convert to "3-pin" connectors for use with a fanbus. These fans only have two wires so I know I can't use them with RPM monitoring. Can someone tell me what are the official sizes of those two types of connectors? I've looked at ...

Positive Pressure Fan Arrangement

Positive Pressure Fan Arrangement My case has two 120mm Papst fans, an intake in front and an exhaust in back. I also have a couple of low noise Papst 80mm fans that I'm not currently using. I was thinking about doing the following: 1. Turning the 120mm fan on the back around so that it blows in. 2....

Thanks Al Bundy.

You seem to have been singularly fortunate in getting several of these PSUs without any defects.

I think I'll try giving SilentMaxx USA a call to see what they say about my not-exactly-silent unit.

Great design but extremely poor quality control. The first one I had, one of the grey ones, was silent in operation but had something rattling around inside. I returned it to Silicon Acoustics and got a blue one for replacement. One of the screws holding the outer case of the new one together was st...

I (like Snorlax) had good results when I switched from a low noise 8cm Panaflo on the Alpha 8045 to a 12cm Papst and an adapter. I adjusted the12cm fan RPM to keep the CPU temperatures about the same as the Panaflo and this gave a lower noise level. I'm using the Alpha reccommended "sucking" air flow.

Data corruption in SmartDrive?

Is anyone else getting more frequent chkdsk runs at boot when they switched to a SmartDrive 2002 enclosure? When mounted normally my Seagate BIV almost never had any problems. Maybe once in a year. Now, in the SmartDrive, I'm getting an error about every 10 days to 2 weeks. All electrical and data c...

How about do both? You could put it in smartdrive then put it on foam at the bottom front. It will run (very) cool, quiet, and decoupled... . I did this a few weeks ago when I got a new Globalwin YCC-61F1 case and a Smartdrive 2002. I removed the lower 3.5" rack in the case and have a 40GB Barracud...

Not so sure I agree with Mike about the Alpha and the 120mm fan combination. I have an Athlon 1200 with the Alpha and the low noise Panaflo 80mm fan. I decided to try the Papst 4412 (120mm) fan with an adapter and have been pleased with the results. The 120mm Papst is louder than the 80mm Panaflo wh...
