Re: Data on upside down heatpipe performance

From reading the PDF and all the info in this thread (very interesting btw)
Am i right in assuming CPU heatpipes (Mesh?) are different from GPU heatpipes (powder?)
As a lot of GPU's have the heat sources at the top of the heatpipe.

Or am i having a thick'o moment

Re: New passive CPU cooler, at CES 2013

Interesting to get some more info, pictures where leaked back in November http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=65355 One thing that stood out from Tom's HW article is the mention of 10 heatpipes, how on earth can you fit 10 in the size of the CPU die ? And the mention of "maximiz...

Just out of curiosity do your 670 fans under load run faster than the SPCR's review sample of 1890 RPM
No need to test if you CBA.

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

No difference in idle temps for the GPU. How much at load though ? i have found GPU's do a fair job of keeping a low idle temp's I'm a bit disappointed not to be able to get even close to my initial expectations I have to ask what where your initial expectations ? I echo what others have said that ...

Re: Data on upside down heatpipe performance

Well most GPU's with heatpipes are upside down, AFAIK all heatpipes work on a wicking principal so the cool liquid soaks some kind of wick. Much like if you put a piece of string over the lip of a glass and leave it you will find after a while a puddle next to the glass, where the water has soaked u...

Re: fanless pc future?

IDK if we will every see the Sandia but i hope so, from what i can tell it has the same chance that any fan has at getting misaligned. In essence that's what it is a fan floating on a thin cushion of air that is so close to the heat source that it eliminates the insulating boundary layer. As for the...

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

While i agree you cant directly compare different cases/fans wouldn't having the side door off negate much of the differences and air flow problems? The idle temps are what leads me to believe its a bad contact with the HS, When my old 8800GT started to fail idle temps where fine but when put under ...

Why voiding the warranty? Just RMA it. There's no guarantee that new TIM will help, and then he's stuck with a possibly bad card. Yea i agree, but if i think i can get away with redoing the TIM without breaking any "warranty void if removed" stickers, etc whose to know. I'm probably going to the lo...

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

To everyone who said it's a air flow problem i have a question (I'm not disagreeing with you) Why when he has the side panel off is he still seeing 82°C SPCR's own review shows MAX is 72°C and all other information i can find says about the same for MAX load temp. To me it seems it could be poor air...

How about something like this http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Vacuum-Atta ... 491&sr=1-1
if you have a home vacuum with round hoses its probably the cheapest $7.15 and if it has adjustable suction all the better.

Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

Agreed 40°C is cool compared to mine at 49°C idle I can only think its recirculating the air its generating when it starts to get hot. I would suggest trying to work out how the air is flowing inside the case, either using smoke or trying to feel where its drawing its air in from the out side. EDIT:...

The only difference is i have a extra fan in the 5.25 bays but all fans are running at 800rpm. I cant see this making a hugh difference but can you remove the middle ...

Not that i know much about NAS, and i guess you have already considered using one instead of having 6 HDD.
Though i would be interested in your opinion on why not NAS as I'm looking into them myself ATM.

Also i highly recommend some kind of SSD, best upgrade ive made this year.
