No treatment for Ebola ... really?
Some of you may have read about the latest Ebola outbreak in West Africa. This time it's in cities, and difficult to control. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/assets/140703085807-ebola-virus-map-story-top.jpg The official information is that there is no treatment available, but my superficial invest...

Re: Semi-Passive GTX780 and R9 280
Review at Guru3d, it's passive in idle (nice!), but IMO not SPCR-quiet under load, and the VRMs get too hot:

Not directly related to the 750Ti, but this (bad?) news is concerning both nVidia and AMD: no 20 nm GPUs this year.

Re: When is 2nd batch of Haswell CPU's arriving?
New info (from Techpowerup): At GDC, Intel announced a backpedal from its plans to eventually reshape desktop CPUs into components that come hardwired to the motherboards across the line, by announcing three new CPU families. It includes the Haswell-E HEDT platform, Broadwell performance platform, a...

Re: asus gtx-670 vs msi gtx-670 gaming
Since the OP seems to not have gotten ideal results and there still was some talk about modding, I'll add my experience from about 1 year ago. I got a standard evga gtx 670, with that horrible cooler but with a nice heatsink on the VRMs, that I kept. Put an Accelero mono plus on it, but found that t...

Re: Fan clip installation on Scythe Mugen 4 (or similar desi
In my old computer I have a Mugen 2, and I've been using the method number 2, first catch the fan then put the clip into the ridge.
The Mugen 4 seems to have a similar fan clipping design. Haven't bent any fins IIRC, I did this many times in 4.5 years of dust cleaning that HSF every 3 - 6 months.

Re: Cold fusion ressurected?
How does nickel = nuclear bomb? the goal of fusion is taking stable elements and combining them into other stable elements, and extracting energy from that process. the goal of fission is taking inherently unstable elements and doing a controlled split on them. neither one will produce a bomb. Re: Better long-term investment PS4 or XB1?
Considering that you can't upgrade the GPU in the console, but you can always add external stuff
if you'll need it (for a price, of course), get the PS4. They won't build its successor for about 7 years.

Re: Thermalright HR-02 or Scythe Mugen 4 for silent i3-4330?
I have a HR-02 Macho on i7-3770k, stock clocks and volts, just turbo all cores to 3.9. The temperature difference between running with a 14 cm fan at 600 rpm and passive is 4 degrees at load. That's while running Prime95, so unless you plan to run Linpack, IMO you should be fine with a passive HR-02...

Re: 3770K IHS removal and results
There is hope that for Ivy Bridge E Intel will use solder, since that will be a larger die. But the die area occupied by the iGPU (in IB and HW) is about the same as the area that would be occupied by 2 extra cores and the extra cache, in IB-E. So it's possible that Intel will use TIM for IB-E, whic...

Actually, since the post came from a fellow inhabitant of Bucharest, the reasons for NOT opening the window should be:
- car noise, especially at night, illegal racing;
- ferral dogs barking, also at night;
- screaming 'music' (manele) from a gypsy party;
- fireworks;
- temperature of +35C outside.

Re: Why I won't recommend a Haswell system until August+
It has been reported, but not confirmed yet, that the retail Haswells run hotter than the review samples.
It is unclear if they use more power or the IHS to die space is larger than in the review samples. Buyers beware.
