when you pour the hot tea, the tea is evaportating due to the heat; therefore the air coming up is very moist. The sides of the tea cup, though warmed, will still be cold enough for condensation.

I actually found resting my old maxtors on 1" foam worked extremely well at dropping down their whine, though they were still pretty loud... then replacing them with a FDB DM9+ was even more effective.

Tom P, that will work great if you paint that room and every object in it jet black. The other down side is you'll have to buy 500W floodlights to light the room decently.

I dare you to go to France and say that in public... Okay, sure. They might get upset, but then I'll pull out a hand gun and they'll all surrender and I'll be the new ruler of france. Then, I will add anti accent laws to their constitution while the UN is debating what to do about me. I will then s...

Interesting side note: porn sites check that the credit card number is valid, not whether or not its held by a minor with an adult cosigning (is that the right word? I'm not sure).

My 3 laptop drives, 2 older maxtors(?) and 1 newer unknown in my IBM laptop click pretty loud, especially the older two. I'm guessing that this is from attempting to make up a bit of the performance lost by the lower rotation speed.

Its probably not too effective... 2.5" drives are typically louder than faster 3.5" drives, in addition to being drastically more expensive per gb.

You'd even be able to fit that on a 180 watt PSU no problem.

Not much reason to though; my 180watt mini PSUs are quite noticably louder than the 120mm fortron under considerably less load.

yeah, this guy in one of my lectures yesterday was thwacking his lap top keys as hard as he could; you could probably hear him typing from anywhere in the lecture hall.

It looks like AMD plans to shrink the price difference with the hammer. I"m dissapointed by that, but AMD does have to start turning a profit or it won't matter.

And the Athlon 64 should be a good heat/performance upgrade, especially when the 90 nanometer die shrink comes.

Another thing to note: There is a 72 gb raptor coming out soon. The most notable change (for us) is a FDB motor, which means the whine will be silenced. However, the seek time is down to 4.3 ms, which will improve performance but will probably click pretty badly.

1. Pro would be a better OS.

3. I've got 166 OCed to 200 and don't have anything to complain about

4. If it hasn't been fixed yet, you can RMA it.

5. Maxtor will be faster, samsung will probably cooler and will be quieter. Reliable I have no idea.
