But is it a Ninja (not supposed to be AM2 compatible) or Ninja RevB (sold as AM2 compatible)?nightmorph wrote:Indeed. I also have an original Ninja, and it fits on my AM2+ motherboard just fine. No clearance issues. So far it's been through an AM2 motherboard and an AM2+, maybe it'll go through an AM3.

I've built a few systems using Pico and have never gotten around to getting a bracket. It's not a bad idea as just having the cables going out of the standard PSU hole can otherwise cause a spark against the metal case. Thanks for the feedback Eunos. Yes, for the sake of an extra couple of quid I'l...

I bought mine from linitx.com. Very good service actually - I ordered on the Wednesday and received the kit on the Friday. It was my own fault that it took me 8 days to find the time to install it! :) Thanks for that Mariner, they seem to be reasonably priced (so worth the gamble) and have a fair f...

The only issue may be the start-up load of the 4HDDs I'd be careful about this with a pico-psu. All the wattage figures we're bandying about for idle or load do not consider motor starting load. Add in the fan and that's five. Thanks, I will do. I was hoping someone would have a similar set-up to m...

I've now installed the PicoPSU 150 in my system and all seems to be working fine thus far. Previous idle power draw was 40W and this is now down to 35W. Full load was 58W and is now 51W. All in all, two thumbs up so far! :D Thanks for the update Mariner. Looks like the 150-XT and FSP brick are the ...

There is something in the manual about a required load to make the PSU operate but if it works with another brick it shouldn't be that.. I'd be contacting the supplier/distributor in the first instance to advise them of the problem and likely warranty claim. I'll be watching the result of this as I ...

Thanks for all of your responses guys! I've just ordered a new PicoPSU-150-XT together with an FSP AC adapter which is reportedly capable of supplying 150W. Hopefully I'll receive them before the weekend then be able to install them into my system without any problems. My system draws less than 80W ...

Experienced PicoPSUers: Which PicoPSU/Power Brick?

Does this look like a decent enclosure for a 3.5 hard drive? Looks like a basic thin sheet metal box you can get from most electronics retailers. May be susceptible to vibration. Worth trying to get a die-cast alloy box instead. I'm sure there are guides on SPCR for creating this type of HDD enclos...

efficiency is good, so all you really need is a fan swap- i've never heard a quiet zalman fan before :D spcr did a zalman psu review a little while back, it was very positive so it's pretty safe to assume that zalman make quality psus. Zalman ZM360B-APS?
Any thoughts on the Zalman ZM360B-APS which seems to be the cheapest (~AU$60), 'quality', 120mm fanned, 'efficient' PSU I can source locally.
It's just for a low cost, low power WHS box.
I considered Pico PSU but I'd have to source that from the US and it would cost a fortune.

Re: Any hints?
The project has been delayed due to overload on the editorial team. Appreciated - same with everyones workload nowadays... In reality, the quest for "the overall lowest power consuming set-up" is really not what the article meant to be about. Yeah, we'll certainly cover that to some degree, but.......

Any hints?
I appreciate the article take time to produce but any hints on which components you are comparing?
Will it be AMD v Intel & Dual v Single Core CPU?
I presume you will be working on the basis of finding the overall lowest power consuming set-up that is still capable of running WHS standard features?
