This GamePC article is interesting and it's also my firm belief that it's pretty misleading. I wrote this about it at XtremeSystems: I believe that the graphicscard should be responsible for 15-20W even at idle. Harddrives are antother 10-15W. Also, as said, the PSU efficiency might be as low 60% at...

For me it was all about if I could sell my old one for a good price. I ended up selling CPU (2500+), RAM & mobo for the same price I bought it for, now how could I not accept that with one year old stuff? I think it's a good way of thinking, you can't regret doing it. Did also sell my HD and PSU. T...

...Lancaster core according to my link. Yup, and I'm guessing that the only difference to San Diego is the socket. I so want to upgrade my rig now, but I just can't justify it... Running an AXP-M @ 2.1GHz (1.45V) and it really does everything I want it to. Changing over to an Athlon64 runnin...

This is simply a rev. E0 winchester core (with single channel s754 1 MB cache etc) right? More like San Diego core. I guess that these chips basically are identical to the upcoming Venice and San Diego cores (except Venice has 512kB L2), so S939 users should also have something to look forward to. :)

If all chips could run at that voltage they could sell them as ~15W chips instead!

Anyway, this looks really promising! :)

I'm building two identical systems to a couple of friends of mine that know nothing about computers. They will feature the new Sempron 3100+ 90nm with boxed coolers (which should run very cool). There will also be an unmodified Sapphire 9800 Pro (or possibly 6600GT) in each system. So, my question i...

I've been running my AthlonXP-M @ 1GHz and 1.1V passive for a while now. Running it at this speed seems to be okay. I have a little airflow around it coming from the case fan and PSU, though. Temperatures are far from hot, with idle temp of 40C and load temp of 43C (Prime95). EDIT: It's still not co...

Just out of curiousity, which stores do you know of that have good stuff? I only know of inet, microstore, microhard (and komplett and dustin, but they are mail-order). Actually, there aren't many good stores that I know of. The better stuff usually has to be mailed. I would recommend http://www.pc...

You guys are wrong. Gothenburg rules you all! :P Anyway, congrats on the Phantom! I have been thinking about a passive PSU for some time now, but external is pretty much a requirement for me, so I'm waiting for the Zalman NEPS400. When it finally arrives I should have a pretty much silent AthlonXP s...

I'm sorry but this is too good to be truth. Can you post any link? Or more information No offence. :) Well, consider this then: AthlonXP @ 1.8GHz 1.45V = 45W AthlonXP @ 1.8GHz 1.20V = 31W This reduction in power does not take into account that power output will increase non-linearly with increasing...

another tiny bit of advice: use the black foam block that comes with the SI-97 to hold the clip in place during install, otherwise it's a nightmare with the clip wandering around. The Winchester would be a much better choice than the AXP-M here. I have seen indications that a stock S939 3000+ outputs something like 30W (or even lower) @ 1.8GHz and 1.4V. This would indicate that if you could lower the CPU voltage to 1.2V and retain the CPU frequency of 1.8GHz (which shouldn't ...

Should I use the shim that comes with the SI-97!?

My Thermalright SI-97 arrives today, so tomorrow I'll be able to tell you how much better it is compared to the SLK-900A (with a 1600RPM 92mm fan). I have a couple of important questions, though: Will temperatures be better without the shim and is it okay to not use it if the computer isn't moved ar...

I'm currently using an SLK-900A with an ADDA 92mm fan rated at 1600RPM and 15dB. This is sufficient to keep the CPU at about 55C...

I use the SLK-900A, which has clip mounting, together with my AthlonXP-M @ 2.3GHz. I also use an ADDA 92mm 15dB fan which is running at about 1600RPM. This is enough to keep the CPU around 55C during load. Pretty good cooling performance if one consider the small amount of noise it makes. :) The bes...

It's a bit hard to get reliable info... What you should consider is that the Prescott isn't only worse than the Athlon64, it's much worse! Anyone even remotely interested in getting a CPU that dissipates limited amounts of heat should steer clear of the Prescott. With that said, the only realistic o...

600 at 1.6 is 35.7 MDP while 500 at 1.1 is 15.9 MDP, according to CPU Heat. Strange results... Cutting the frequency in half should pretty much make it output half as much heat. I have a True Power 430 with Pabst fans and it has been just fine with these for some time now. In part this depends on several things. Most important are your case temp.
