Looking at the state of BIOSes these days, you will be lucky to get one that works properly with current CPU's and chipsets, much less those in the future. More likely any board purchased today will ship with a dicey BIOS, go through a couple of fixes for obvious problems, then be abandoned when the...

Usually a good point in general for servers to have the halt on set to no errors.

Eliminates one factor if you are troubleshooting a no boot.

Re: Corsair-branded unit still better

The Corsair branded unit also has a shorter chassis, which would be very nice to have. I was also under the impression that it has better cable sleeving and internal components, although I am not certain. Corsair is also willing to offer a 7 year warranty, which is also compelling. I just don't und...

I keep on looking at this thread, and finaly got around to testing my XFX 4830. In my setup, the card usually runs around 48-50C and fan speed is 67%. At this speed, it can barely be heard against the other fans. At about 60% it is inaudible. At 100%, it is really loud. Tested with my ear near the f...

I use a Nexus LXM-8200 on mine. Essentially silent and keeps everything cool. It doesn't have a gigantic footprint either, but it is fairly tall.

I would recommend a bolt-through kit with this or any other big cooler.

I would go for a case with 2x120mm up front. It will always be easier to quiet without worying about airflow. I have some OCZ with heatpipes that come out the top (OCZ2RPR10664GK). jessekopelman has a lot of good points, I'll add and reinforce some. Don't bother with a quad-core unless you have an application that can actually use it. DDR3 isn't really future proof, since, without doubt, the speeds will go up by the time you upgrade. DDR3 isn't really faster than DDR2 for Sock...

Well you have a 120mm right behind the CPU, so that should help. One annoyance was that there is a horizontal metal plate between the second and third (from the top) 5 1/4" bays that precludes the use of two bay devices that extend more than two inches or so into the bay. I couldn't find a way to re...

I have one. 1. Don't know, probably not necessary. The panels are pretty heavy. 2. Yes. 3. A lot easier to quiet than my old Coolermaster ATC-110, primarily because of the 120mm fans versus 92mm. .... All the HTPC cases I have looked at are at least 43cm wide, with side fans or vents that suggest they need a bit more room than I have in the rack... So the rack is enclosed so you are woried about ventilation space? If not for that, you can actually fit some pretty big cases in there. Silvers...

So does that mean that if a negative pressure is used that dust will increase. Negitive air pressure will pull air through every nook & cranny in the system...

I hated the look and feel and sluggishness of Vista but persisted.

The straw that broke the camels back was that Office 2000, which I require for maximum compatibility with my corporate clients, would update automatically using Office Update on XP, but Vista required manual updating.
