I think I might try something a little different. Since I'm making round holes, I should probably be using rubber grommets instead of trim. I found this page that sells a lot of different sizes... http://cableorganizer.com/grommet/ I'm thinking that the best size for my application is this one... OM...

AFAIK the video cards don't use a 3-pin connector, but a 4-pin one for a PWM fan. IMO you could damage the card by plugging the Turbo module into a 4-pin header (are you sure it's possible?). But it should work fine plugged into a motherboard 3-pin header or a fan controller. Of course, the card wo...

This stuff works great, been using it for years: http://www.bestbyteinc.com/CMO-WIN-CSM.html Is it plastic or rubber? How tight of a radius can it fit? I'm going to be punching some 1.25 inch diameter holes in my motherboard tray for wire routing, and I need something to line the inside of the holes.

Trim to cover sharp edges after case mod

I'm going to be making some modifications to an Antec NSK3480 case.

I'm looking for rubber trim to cover the sharp edges from my cuts.

Can someone recommend something and a place to purchase it?

I recently got bored and put all my old invoices in a spreadsheet. I was embarassed to have spent $295 on a 7800GT video card 3 years ago when they were brand new. I NEVER buy anything at the top of the curve anymore. I bought a Creative 3D Blaster Annihilator Pro GeForce 256 DDR back in the day fo...

Is there something about the P5E-VM HDMI that you really like? It has the Intel GMA on it, that will go unused. It also has as an older gen audio chip. 9800GT - pick one with a decent warranty and doesn't mind you tinkering with the heatsink :D I'm going with the P5E-VM HDMI for several reasons.. 1...

Powercolor HD3850 - $125 http://www.directron.com/ag3850512md3.html I can't say if it's quiet though. Firstly I would suggest a Thermalright HR01+ in a NSK 3480 over a Ninja due to it's smaller size and roughly equal performance - and if you can find one a HIS 4850 with the dual slot cooler that blows the heat out the back . I am using Thermalright SI-128 SE coolers in my 3480s but would not recomm...

Incidentally, how does the HD 3850 compare to the HD 3860? I see that Newegg sells both in AGP. HD3860? I think you're mistaken, there is no HD3860, perhaps you're referring to the HD3650? But you might be right. Your CPU could be a bottleneck (alongside the video card). After a quick search it see...

If you're happy with your current system there is no need to replace it. A simple video card upgrade ought to do it :) I'm very happy with my current system, but I'm not certain the video card is the bottleneck. I'd hate to drop $100+ on a new video card and cooling solution and still get crappy fr...

My suggestion would be to save your money and just upgrade your video card (assuming it's a PCI-e slot and not agp). The 7600GS is your biggest and probably sole bottleneck. If it turns out you need more horsepower for other things, then you can always build a new system, eh? Unfortunately, my syst...

coolest gaming card: Radeon HD 4830 vs Geforce 9800GT

My current system has an overclocked Pentium M @ 2.2 GHz and a Geforce 7600GS. My system was designed to be as quiet as possible using a fanless video card and a Zalman flower type cooler with a very large, undervolted fan. It's all packed into an extremely compact Superflower/TTGI TT-101 case, seen...

looking for a decent short-depth optical drive for my HTPC

Can anyone recommend a decent short-depth optical drive with a black bezel for my m-ATX HTPC case? The case will fit a full length drive but I'd like to have a little more room to try to squeeze in a quieter Zalman "flower" type cooler. In this pic, you can see how the back of the DVD-ROM drive intr...

Sweet. I hate the stealth drive bays anyway and the NEO power supply on the P150 is a piece of excrement.

I'd like to see a few bullet points about each case that indicate some of the strengths, weaknesses, and interesting features that might help someone make a decision. Of particular interest to me is the physical size of the case. In my opinion, the Antec Sonata is probably the holy grail of cases fr...

Mike, I hope you'll let us know when the new crop of high-efficiency power supplies becomes available that doesn't need third-party modifications to work. I don't think this issue is a widespread as you might perceive. There are lots of people building systems with these supplies (like myself) with...

Re: Load Resistor - would this work?

That's overkill, it's a high precision resistor.... not necessary for such a "dumb" application. Try this one for 39 cents . Any electronics parts store should have them -- even your local radio shack. http://www.partsexpress.com/images/016-022m.jpg Yeah, I know it's a little overkill but I like th...

Re: Load Resistor - would this work?

Would this work?... You could make something like this yourself -- all you need is a ~25ohm 10W resistor + spare 4-pin molex plug like the one picture. That would pull ~6W (0.5A) on the 12V line, which is enough (in combination with whatever else is in the PC) to provide the minimum 12V load for PS...

Would this work?... http://www.pcpowercooling.com/products/viewproduct.php?show=VLR http://www.pcpower.com/images/products/b/VLR_photo_01_3848.jpg I know it's meant to plug into the +5v line, but you could easily move the pins so that it plugs into the +12v line. However, it might not be big enough....
