Re: Aspire X-Qpack?

Seems like it has a lot of silent pc potential. I am just concerned to all of the references to defective or damaged brand new cases. Is this typical for Aspire or do you think it is due to initial production run lack of quality control? I've been eyeing that case. Bluefront recently updated his po...

Just an idea off the top of my head... Why not try a car sponge (or two). You could cut them up to size. I'm sure you could arrange it so they couldn't be seen. They'd slide nicely on the floor. And it would be cheap as chips! Plus, if you spill coffee right next to your PC, you just scoot it over ...

Re: It'll be a while

the Z720T looked pretty strong. Incidentally, Gigabyte seems to be on the edge of releasing a nice s939 MATX. That board looks kinda nice...I'm definitely looking for an AMD64 board that has gigabit lan, and SATA, and there is a definite lack of those. However, aren't the ATI/ULI chipsets shown to ...

I didn't see if you checked this or not, but you might also want to try using a different PSU. A few months ago, I was trying to restore an old PC to useability. I pulled a working PSU out of my working PC and plugged it into the old motherboard. The LED on the motherboard lit up...but the board wou...

I don't rip to uncompressed, I rip to lossless compressed (a format known as FLAC; used to use Monkey's Audio before). I use foobar2000 to output via Kernel Streaming to an Echo Audio Mia MIDI sound adapter, which then sends the data via 75 ohm digital coax S/PDIF to a Benchmark DAC1, converting to...

Re: CPU_FAN failure?

My question is should I connect the Panafol to the CPU_FAN connector? Your motherboard manual SHOULD indicate the max amps/wattage that the motherboard fan headers can handle. My ASUS manuals do. Note that sometimes the values listed in the manual are for all 3 headers combined, not individual head...

The AUX power connector on a ASUS P4T...

I'm using my old P4T motherboard for my media PC. Works great, but it's still just a tad louder than I'd like. Part of the reason for that is the PSU I have in it. I'd like to upgrade to a newer, quieter PSU, but the P4T has that unusual "AUX" power connector on it's motherboard. That limits what po...

No, Brand/Model (and revision) are pertinent. Just because a HDD supports SMART (almost all), doesn't mean it reports . Well, that would certainly be an explanation. I've got some Western Digitals, some Maxtors, and some Seagates. Hehe. So, I'll have to find out what they actually are. The thing is...

By the way, I have a question regarding SpeedFan. I have a Hitachi 7K250 SATA and Seagate 7200.8 SATA (250 GB and 300 GB respectively) installed. The temps reported are always identical for the two drives. They go up and down together in lockstep. Now, this could be a fantastic coincidence, but com...

Well, the first temp1 and temp 2 are both just above ambient at the moment and the last temp 1 is below ambient temp. I guess that means the last temp 1 can be disregarded aswell. That leaves what? A northbridge temp? A motherboard temp? My experience so far with Speedfan and various motherboards i...

Playing with AAM on WD hard drive...all or nothing?

I've been trying like crazy to figure out how to adjust the AAM settings on my hard drives, particularly my media pc. Building your own fan controller.

In the past few weeks, I've done a lot of searching on this topic. So, I've decided to compile a short guide on how to feed ...

Isn't there an issue though with that fan placement in regards to the filter? I would think filters are only really effective if the intake fan is directly "sealed" to it. Once the side panel goes back on, then it looks like you have a sealed duct from the fan back to the filter in front...except fo...

A. Tinning the tip is VERY much a good idea. Also, the idea of putting solder on the tip before the wire can work, but the solder will burn quickly if left to long. Burnt solder == bad. This is something I've not fully understood. So, leaving the tip on solder too long causes it to burn, right? But...

Ok, an intake duct makes the most sense. I'd have to improvise a filter then. I live in AZ, where dust is the state flower. So you disconnected the smart power from the motherboard and turned it on (with some PSU tester or some such, I assume) and listened to it, and it's definitely louder when phys...
