Hi guys,
Some ASRock and MSI boards added... however I still feel there isn't too many interesting boards to buy. Most of them are limited to 2x SATA and absence of DC-in is another weak spot. Seems to me, that designers of those boards aren't using them

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
But personally I would only use a PicoPSU again for an embedded system using SSDs or maybe one or two laptop drives at the most. Once you start spinning up great big steel flywheels, you move from theory to brute mechanical reality. Just my two cents based on exactly one experience, so take it for ...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
Hi, I would like to ask owners of SuperMicro X10SBA board for consultation about the PSU. I would like use this board with 4-5 drives (4x 3,5 HDD + 1x SSD for system). What would be the best power supply chain PicoPSU or traditional ATX? I guess the system will idle under 20 Watts, yet the problem w...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
I plan to connect 4-5 HDDs, so some small case is out of the game, therefore some 120 mm silent fan on the back of the case working with the temperature sensors can hopefully keep the board temperatures in normal.

For those concerned, there is a test of SuperMicro X10SBA, it is in chinese or whatever, but important values are readable. Idle: 12 W Load by 1080p video: 18 W Prime95: 19 W I hope it is capable to play 1080p in smooth way, finally also listed in more shops. Price is a bit high, but this board can ...

Maybe it is a silent fan No, really I think that those new SoC are very cold and therefore the fan won't be on all the time. You can see that most of the boards with baytrail are fanless.danialbi wrote:The Intel NUC DN2820FYKH has an internal FAN spinning!

no Windows drivers available yet from SuperMicro or Intel (ugh!), no ETA on release of drivers. How the f*** is it possible, that they release product without drivers? They didn't make tests during development? This is starting to happen all round the industry... getting sick of it. Those things ar...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
Out of curiosity, have you actually compared the quality of analog and digital outputs? It is hard to explain, but I have (and hopefully will have) very good seeing. When I was testing VGA connection I always observed some small artifacts in the image and in bothered me a lot. (Tried on 22" 1920x12...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
Here's what SPCR says about the N2800 Atom which comes on boards with HDMI (as do the more powerful, non-mobile versions): "The quality of HD 720p and 1080p video playback was consistently good" There is no such thing as "FullHD (mkv and flash) performance". Containers aren't codecs! I believe that...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
Get a cheap media extender that can play stuff but little else. Power consumption is good but flexibility sucks. I've tested media players (Xtreamer, Asus, Evolve, WD ...) more than year and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. Mostly unbelievably buggy system, lack of support of certain codecs an...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
I've got this board inside my server. No matter it's power, it doesn't have digital video output, so I see no point in using that as 1080p player.HFat wrote:SPCR about a 4-year old Atom's integrated gfx: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1010-page4.html

edit: you mentionned Linux. You must know there's a graphics driver problem with Cedar Trail! I tried Win 7 as well, since the PowerVr graphic chip is known for almost no support Linux. Which Atom board you have in mind? I tried lately DN2800MT and it wasn't able to play 1080p.HFat wrote:Intel has already released boards that idle at 10W and which play 1080p years ago.
They said the only consumer boards they're going to sell going forward are NUC boards. So don't hold your breath.

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
ARM boards like CubieTruck (Cubieboard 3) looks very promising, but they mostly have 1x SATA slot and the support for linux is very limited. You have to run some special distros and acceleration of video isn't working properly. Therefore my only hope is that, those lazy bastards in Intel will finall...

I'm still looking for some HTPC board with 10 W idle and 1080p capability and it looks like, that Intel boards with onboard bay-trail CPU's are slowly rolling out. Intel Atom E3800
Hi guys, since I'm still waiting for my dreamboard (D2800MT returned after week, because of poor HD capability), I've done some recent research and: 1) There is quite a shortage of Atom boards with D2800, D2700, 2500 2) Intel quietly released Atom E3800 family => Are there new boards coming up, or I...
