I have both GTs and YLs. And, on a radiator, the GTs push much more air for the same noise. Heat sink should be the same.

I really like the gentle typhoons, especially if used against something (radiator in my case). For free air you might be better off with something else, but for a heat sink....

Hmm the thermosyphon idea is very cool! I was thinking about something roughly similar, but I was thinking big heat pipes.

Yeah but the fans affect the temp of the water, not the components (at least not directly). So if the water gets hot, you want the fans to stay a bit faster until its cooled. This also has a nice side effect that the fan speed is much more consistent, and doesn't change rapidly.

I think this is very dependent on the specific motherboard (and hence controller) you are using. I had no end of problems with Speedfan and an Asus board, but the gigabyte boards I've had since then have worked fine. I really wish the source for speedfan was open, as it would make fixing these kinds...

All this sounds like we are telling you that WC is bad.... and its not, it has its place. For me, the ability to have a highly overclocked machine that runs very very quietly is a major boon. But... its not for everyone.

The air coming out from the radiator isn't hot as such, its generally only a few degrees warmer than the air going in. Thats a really good idea, should have thought of that! Much easier to find a case that allows a 360 (or even a 480) in the front drive bays than at the rear!
