Fortress II or not? The heatpipe 'issue'.
I'm quite unsure what to pick for a new gaming computer I am hoping to buy soon (tm) as my old video card died recently. So far the planned hardware is something like I7-2600k (OC'ing it) and HD6950 => Somewhat high temps, especially from the video card. At first I got convinced by the Silverstone F...

I pray that the 5870 is really as good as they say here. Generally I dont have much faith in the acoustic judgment in the average GPU tests (although Hardwarecanuck is well above average). Most of them call it silent if it doesn't sound like a jet plane during load. Personally I want it to be reaso...

The reason for the difference between speedfan and realtemp is, afaik, because they dont read the actual temperature, but the distance to 'Tmax', which is a temp determined by Intel, and the creators of those 2 applications are taking some educated guess about what Tmax is for each CPU. From what Iv...

I was planning to do the filter mod as shown in that link too, Ive just ended up removing the whole mid-filter though (kept the actual dust filter in there). No need to modify then. I cant say if it makes fan noise higher to remove it, tbh I doubt it makes much difference compared to doing the filte...

Fan spinning up
I noticed something weird today when starting up a specific game (Age of Conan). All my fans are currently either controlled with Fanmates or running at full speed (lacking Fanmates for 2 fans - 1 of those are connected to the PSU, another to the motherboard, so I cant read fan speed on the first on...

Brand new P182 too, I've replaced all fans though. 2 slipstreams as top and rear. 1 S-flex on Xigmatek S1283 CPU cooler (CPU is Q9450 too btw). Right now they are all running at around 800-900 RPM, and temps are no problem at all, although I want to try some OC, so Im going to raise the speed. Also ...

Just finished installing S1 rev2 on my HD4870 (likely making a gallery thread later on when i get time, with temps, unfortunately my camera broke down, so only got mobile camera, which makes it a bit hard to see anything :/) Thought you or someone else might be interesting in seeing some temps. Replace death sentence with actual lifetime. Obviously some murders are too f@#%ed up to ever be released. By killing the murderer you are imo ending their punishment, cant really say they are being punished when dead (well, unless you believe in some Hell or whatever :P), since they are no more. It...

Would surely go for 1GB versions then, if you can wait for those. And 4870X2 for that 30" monitor. Depends if you want to spend that much extra for gaming, it will surely give a big boost in games, but most curret games already run quite good on a single 4870 (at least in 1920x1200). But surely not ...

Oh my, looks very much like what I ordered a few days ago. Looks good. X48-DQ6 isnt really needed though. X48-DS5 or DS4 is pretty much the same, and cheaper. X48T would be for DDR3, which is still a waste of money for nearly everyone. When it comes to crossfire, I'm not sure tweaktowns article is r...

can you place small heatsinks on those? Doesnt look like they are entirely flat. TIM is your friend, I suppose. :P Was just worried they had something on them that was not supposed to be covered, but nvm, I can see thats not the case. Sorry for the noob questions, but beside the actual RAMs and the...

Tbh, that sounds like bullshit. Why wouldnt it be supposed to adjust voltages? Unless there are some technical reasons in DDR5 (in which case they might have considered to make it public known there was a difference). What is PowerPlay if not lowering the power usage in idle mode? Wonder if the real...

4870 and ramsinks
Anyone know how many heatsinks are needed for the ram and PWMs on HD4870 with Accelero S1 r2 installed?
Also, is EnzoTech BMR-C1L ramsinks any good for this?

Thanks. Ye I know the cards are identical usually, so it was warranty, customer service etc I am concerned about :) You know if any of them let you keep warranty even after replacing stock cooler? (I think XFX does so for nvidia cards). Sure you can just throw stock cooler back on and hope they dont...

So, most of the new GPUs came out (theoretically at least, still hard to get some of them). Pretty sure I'll go for the 4870, quite good performance for the price, and slightly less of a power hog than the GTX280. Not sure how far you can go down in fan speed with a 3.part heatsink on it, but consid...

I remember reading news of TSMC finalizing 45nm technology....or that they do have the capacity to do it, but it will probably take some time to validate it for a complex GPU. Ye, they do, but I think they have said it wouldn't be before 2009. Maybe they surprise us, but tbh, I believe those waitin...

Its hard to believe it would be that high on idle, especially considering the new GTX cards have a much lower idle watt usage (and why would it be so much higher on idle at GTX 280 than GTX 260...). Most reviews seems to agree that its very loud on full load though. However, isnt that the case for a...
