Could my new WD5000AAKS be defective?
Hi, I have been looking through the "how to silence the HDD"-posts for a while now, yet I do not find very much mention of what is currently my biggest conundrum: A new WD5000AAKS that is swooshing so loud that I really wonder why I bothered with the Megahalems, silent fans, running Afterburner so a...

Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x
...and Sapphire 6850 is surely quieter at idle. What do you mean by idle, here? I presume you don't mean that the card is idle because then of course it would be dead silent. But if the computer is idle then the card fans could still be spinning at 75% - all depending on the config (hardware and so...

Re: pc for 900€ most "silence" as posible
Hi, I would think twice about that XFX video card. My impression from reading reviews about the 5000 and 6000 generations of Radeon cards is that XFX generally are at the noisy end of the spectrum and focus on cool temperatures at the expense of fan noise. We are just seeing the 6870 cards coming ou...

Re: Afterburner: fan control does not work automatically
I use the software's function to start at boot. This creates a Task Scheduler event and I managed to get around the problem by choosing the event and adding a 30 seconds delay to it. Maybe for the next driver update I should skip the CCC entirely, I don't really see why I need it. I have a hardware ...

Re: DirectCU (1 fan) vs. Windforce (2 fans)
I ended up buying a the Gigabyte Windforce 6850 1GB. At first I thought I had a jet engine in the computer but then realized it was spinning at 75% all the time. So I got Afterburner installed and fiddled the fans down to zero and it has stayed there ever since and the temperature never goes above 5...

Megahalems breaking my board...?
Hi, So I have decided to go for the full beast - a Megahalems. What convinced my was the combination of performance and the simple and secure installation procedure (as described in the review here at SPCR). I am new at this so simple installation is well worth 50% higher price for (particularly if ...

Afterburner: fan control does not work automatically
Hi, In MSI Afterburner 2.0.0, I have created a profile that turns off the GPU fans completely until 50 degrees Celsius, higher than which it turns them on. I set Afterburner to start minimized at Windows boot, and for a few days everything was all and well. As I booted into Windows 7 the GPU fans wo...

DirectCU (1 fan) vs. Windforce (2 fans)
Hi, Although the Sapphire 6850 is tempting me as a very silent card (see this thread if you are interested http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=60475 ), from a noise perspective it feels it bit dumb to buy a Sapphire card that is not Vapor-X. So I began to look at the MSI 6850 W...

Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x ?
Hi, I noticed a link to this Germnan testing site that is taking a look at the new Radeon 68xx cards. And it seems that the Sapphire 6850 which is not even a "Vapor-X" card is very very silent. However, I cannot speak or read German so I can't really assess the information on that page. http://ht4u....

Anyone using i7 950 with included boxed fan+heatsink ?
Hi,
Is anyone using i7 950 with included boxed fan+heatsink ?
If so, is the fan noisy?
Should I consider buying a separate CPU fan+heatsink solution directly?
Any recommendations? (will mainly multitask in Adobe applications and do some FPS gaming every now and then).
Thanks!

P6X58D-E vs. Sabertooth X58 ?
Hi, I was going to get an ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard for my i7 950, but now ASUS just released a cheaper and it seems to me cooler (temperature-wise) board, the Sabertooth X58 . I've looked at the specs and they seem pretty identical regarding ports and memory and stuff. When it comes to capacitors a...

is Antec P183 that much better than Fractal Design Define R3
Hi, A week ago I ordered a Fractal Design Define R3 but it sold out before my order was processed and now there is a sale on Antec P183. So I could cancel my order, add 30-40€ and get the Antec instead. I prefer the aesthetics of the R3, but my main concern after all is noise levels. Should I canc...

I ordered my R3 case yesterday even though I won't buy all the components until the Radeon 6000 series comes out so the price for the 5000 series drops a bit. They threw in an extra large fan and units were disappearing fast so I grabbed one before I lost out on that extra fan  . Anyway, this g...

NZXT Hale 90 ?
Hi, Does anyone know anything about the NZXT Hale 90? I couldn't find anything here when searching. It retails (in Sweden) for at the same the same price as an Antec TruePower, yet it is 80+ Gold rated and claims a maximum decibel level of 20 dB for wattages 550-750. Details here Seem pretty darn to...

Since the price difference in Sweden is not that hefty, I think I will probably go with the Fractal if it is better than then Antec. Antec 300 or Fractal Design Define R3 ?
Hi, For my first ever build I am thinking to go with either the Antec 300 or Fractal Design Define R3. This is due to price and aesthetics and that from vendors and online reviews they seem to be good entry level cases that still deliver. My question is, have I bought into a marketing hype? Hi, thanks for replying! It seems Corsair AX would be a good choice then. However, the point about 3.5" HDDs being the main source of noise in a SPCR build, makes me wonder if I am not going for overkill if aiming for SPCR standards? Hi, I am just starting out on my first adventure in building a computer, and I want it to be fairly silent so that I can enjoy Chopin without hearing the computer. So let's start with the basics. I am thinking of getting a Fractal Design Define R3 case but the choosing of PSU is proving difficult. I...
