Silent Slimline sata dvd drive?
I have a Slimline Slot-loading DVD burning drive that I was planning on using with my htpc, but it's ide and using an ide to sata adapter was working. I was having an issue with it taking a long time to bootup (would pause at post for a few seconds then continue). After getting a No bootable device ...

Intel just posted a new version of the BIOS (0083). From the release notes: Changed the processor temperature string. Changed the PAVP mode default setting to "Lite". Updated iQST performance. Not sure what the PAVP deal is, as it was already done in 0079. The other two look like they might transla...

I ended up removing the fan on the door, and then swapped the side panels, to compensate for the gaping hole left there. I also replaced the other case fans I had in there with larger 120mm fans. Specifically the Thermaltake A2329 . I had to get an 80mm to 120mm adapter to get them to fit. http://im...

I got the heatsink yesterday and installed it today. It is completely silent. It's not in a case and I wasn't able to hear it at all. Also replaced the power brick with an 80W one. I also connected my dvd drive this time around. It's pretty noisy on boot, so not sure if I'll keep it. The slot-loadin...

I'm still looking to get the HIPER copper heatsink. I found the aluminum version here . The replacement Intel sent me is working pretty well, I'm probably going to reinstall the OS since I've had some intermitent issues after upgrading bios to the latest version. For anyone who puts it to sleep at i...

It's great that a picoPSU with 60W brick (and others) can power all the systems with various CPUs people have mentioned. I would advise caution, however, with running any of these AC/DC transformers close to their rated power. As gammelgam mentioned, spinup power draw of HDDs and optical drives is ...

Since we're discussing power usage, this is what I got for mine (posted in the dg45fc discussion thread): E7200 120GB Laptop drive (Seagate 5400) picopsu 90W with the 60W brick 1GB DDR2-800 OCZ memory (manually clocked to 5-5-5-15) Idle: 30W Playing 720p video: 36W with CPU at 40% Playing 1080p vide...

i've updated to the 79 bios, as i fully expect intel to tell me to do it before they agreee to an RMA. I've also changed my memory timings to 800mhz 5-5-5-15 succesfully. Thats what my ram is rated it, turns out that kingston hyperx ram has the spd set to 667mhz 5-5-5-15 by default though so it was...

Intel just posted a new BIOS on their website for the DG45FC and DG45ID. The release note mentions the following fix: Updated the NVRAM module. I bet any amount of money the bug was the cause of my board dying after I changed the memory settings which presumably were stored in non-volatile memory t...

Can you guys check if the high-pitched sound is coming from the speaker? I'll have a listen tonight when I'm home and see if i can tell. Ashex - I could be wrong but it sounds like Intel's driver only natively supports the HDTV resolutions of 1920x1080/1280x720 and the standard 4:3 resolutions. Your power consumption numbers are interesting. The CPU usages look like you were running without hardware acceleration turned on for h264/v...

some interesting stats: E7200 120GB Laptop drive picopsu 90W with the 60W brick (will probably upgrade depending on what load draw is) I haven't connected my dvd drive yet, since I need to get one of those tiny 4 pin molex adapters. Thanks for the heads up. I updated drivers and still wasn't able to get it above 720x480. I started playing with settings, and reducing the hardware acceleration by two allowed me to pick whatever resolution the card supported. I set it to 1280x720, then tweaked the aspect ratio by dropping both to ...

After having played with this board for a bit, I'm not recommending this for anyone until Intel fixes the issue with resolution detection. It's a pretty common issue, and DTDcalc is not fixing the issue at all, so unless you know your monitor/tv works with an Intel graphics chipset, avoid this for t...

@Ashex Have you had any more graphical issues yet or have they been fixed by correcting the RAM timings? I suppose the BIOS has options for that. @Ashex & frank2003 You said you can't get the DVI port to work. Is this still the case? I ask because I consider getting this board (I prefer small syste...

Re: Dvd Drive DG45FC
I noticed this doesnt have a ide for a slimline drive, is everyone using a standard Drive. Kind of effects the small form factor approach doesnt it? Slimline optical drives with a MicroSATA port are slowly starting to appear, so I guess you'll just need a MicroSATA-to-SATA adaptor to connect them. ...

How much cooler is the nortbridge with the new heatsink? I may do that if it helps keep the ambient temp down. I plugged in the cable I got and didn't get any video. it had a d-sub connector or did you use an adapter? I tried two Gigabyte G33 boards with that monitor, one with integrated DVI and one with a DVI ADD2 card and both failed with DVI. The D-sub connection that worked was a straight VGA to VGA connection; I don’t remember if I tried the DVI connecto...
