I have a couple of 160GB SATA spinpoints with JVC motors.
They do emit a high pitch whine, but thankfully it falls right across the frequency range that Acoustipack is designed to block so as soon as I close the case up there's no more problem.

Most PCI-e motherboards have a workaround for PSUs that don't have the 24 pin arrangement - either an ATX 20 - 24pin adaptor or a socket for an extra molex or the 2x12v plug etc. I gave up on the A8N-E Deluxe when the one website that had it listed for preorder in the UK effectively dropped it. The ...

I've given up on the A8N-E Deluxe entirely. There are increasing rumours that when it does eventually come out it will no longer have passive cooling. I have decided to go down the route of getting the A8N-SLI Deluxe and modifying the chipset cooling. There are plenty of examples I found with google...

Well, I'm building what sounds like a pretty similar system to you (I'm using the Asus A8N-SLI and modifying the chipset heatsink) and I am going to go with the Zalman. I've used them in the past and always been happy so I see no reason to change. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter which...

I found this in one of my cupboards - it looks like it should be ok, but I thought I'd better check. Could save me buying something if it is...

Well, i've always used Seagates up til now but it's the noise issue that worried me. I have E.A.R. isolator mounts for the harddrives so no they won't be hard mounted. However, I do much prefer to have three physical drives. I've always had it that way - one for the windows install and installed pro...

Could use some advice on finalising my storage plans
Ok. I need a lot of storage space and I need it in my PC as it goes backward and forward to uni a lot. I've already been sold on the idea of SATA Samsung Spinpoints so don't worry about that, it's just that I wish, i really wish they did a 200GB version. As it stands I need three drives, there is no...

Well the obvious answer is that one makes a noise and the other doesnt. Other than that, the Silencer pushes hot air out of the case which the ZM80D-HP doesn't, but the ZM80D-HP gives you better options in terms of noise control - you can attach a fan to it without too much difficulty if you want to...

For what it's worth I'm planning to stick a ZM80D-HP on a GeForce 6600GT. I've done some fairly extensive google research and found plenty of instances where people have it all working fine. However, just to be on the safe side, I've got a Sunbeam PCI Wherever Rack and will be fixing a nexus 120mm f...

Trust me filete, by the standards of most SPCR members the Antec Truepower is far from silent. Some favourites here are: - Nexus NX3500 - Nexus NX4090 - Seasonic Super Tornado series - Seasonic Super Silencer series - Seasonic S12 There are also various entirely passive options available (ie. no fan...

Perfectly possible. I can hear a high-pitch noise from conventional CRT monitors. Not everyone can, as it's on the borderline of human hearing (like the noises bats make) but I'm one of the unfortunates who does. As for the white noise, muting the speakers does not necessarily mean that they get phy...

I got samples a few months ago. I have just installed them into the case I'm preparing for my new build (more on that soon hopefully!) and testing proves them to be quite effective. While they can never beat the near-total decoupling acheived through suspension, they do make a noticeable improvement...

Btw, I'm interested to know where you got your parts for the duct from.
Do these look similar? What exactly is the bit that is attached to the fan?

That looks very nice, I especially like that duct. Regarding the "XP thang" I've had worse than that. Ever tried installing XP while you have other drives connected that already have partitions on them? The result is that your existing partitions are assigned C, D, E etc and your windows drive ends ...

I too have heard these warnings of the XP90/120 not being terribly flat. While I haven't gotten around to installing mine yet, I did take the precaution of getting a lapping kit to give it a good going over with first. If you're in the UK, Kustom PCs provide a couple of excellent options (scroll dow...

That looks almost, if not completely, identical to the one I have. And yes you can use any brand of extras you like so long as you have a collet to take it that fits in your chuck. Black and Decker have a seriously limited range of bits compared to Dremel, so I went straight out and bought a couple ...

There has to be more to it than that, or loads of manufacturers would have just whacked two PCI-e x16 ports on. I beleive the chipset plays a role somehow as well: look at nVidia's chipset lineup. There's the nForce4, the nForce4 Ultra, and the nForce4 SLI. The latter is the only one that will suppo...
