You can estimate the effect of soft dampening by holding it in your hand, unfastened but running. Or did you do just this?unimatrix0 wrote:Thanks for the info, mine is a MCP350. I just unscrewed it from the base and noise has reduced quite a bit. I still need a way to fasten it and for it to be quiet, if possible.

Depending on how far away your radiator will be, and the vertical difference between the top of the loop and the bottom of the loop, a DC pump might not be able to handle it (pump head ratings on those mag drive pumps aren't super hot) Are you sure? For the data I have seen it's just the other way ...

Thanks. Since I'm going to placing the radiator externally, I guess it would be better to use an AC pump? Do per your preference. It shouldn't be hard to find some spare 12V/1A power supply lying around, or take power cable with the tubes. 1A wire does not really matter anymore, if you draw two wat...

Acrylic cases are actually very quiet. The main issue with them is that they proivide no RF shilelding at all, and the vent holes are usually terribly restricted. You could solve both of these by... 1) adding a layer of aluminum sheeting on the interior (or just not worrying about it unless the RF ...

What's the difference with the alphacool top? I think the DDC Pro is the 10W DDC + Alphacool top and the Ultra is the 18W DDC + Alphacool top, but what do the top's do? They make the pump quieter. Acrylic is quite good sound insulator and it does not vibrate as easily as many other plastics. And na...

Thanks, think I read that people prefer the Apogee over the Storm. Yeah, especially for a quiet system. See this to see why. It shows that with same head pressure Apogee gives you more flow - and when silencing a computer, this enables you to undervolt the pump farther, as it does not need to push ...

What would be interesting to see tested would be minimalistic water cooling system being used to pump the heat with the same testbed. Once I get my bed done, maybe I'll do it, unless someone else does it before me.. In forced cooling it's usually better to use radiator as water to air heat exhanger,...

Can the pump be also placed in the other room? If say I went something like: ThermoChill PA120.3 w/ Yate Loon D12SL-12 Swiftech Storm or AquaXtreme MP-05 SP LE Laing D5 I guess it's not passive anymore, but if the pump and fans are in the other room I should be silent. If I did go with the res2 right now, and then decide to watercool more devices, could I disable the res2 pump and put a Laing D5 or something inline? Yes. Hmm, the hole in the wall is about a foot higher than the floor where the computer and the radiator would sit on either side. So I guess it may not work that well, although I could punch another hole in the wall near the floor. That's not a problem, even according to manufacturer specs. Reserator p...

Re: External Radiators?
I'd have to run 4-5ft of tubing between the unit and my htpc though. Would this work? Are there other external units I should look at? I only want to watercool my cpu and chipset right now. Couple of comments: Reserator pump might be able to do that, if the machine and reserator tower are at the sa...

It doesn't seem to me that the drop from the original 3 year warranty on the PSU to the 3 MONTH warranty due to it coming with a b-stock case is being taken into account in the price of the case. For me it sounds like a clear and fair deal. If you want warranty, you buy regular items, if you want t...

BTW, does air bubble makes a lot of noise? If so, how? :? I do not know why, but yes, water flowing in tubing without unnecessarily tight bends should cause only a very quiet "woosh" sound; something you do not hear without putting your ear very close to the tubing. And then, water and air flowing ...

Re: Evercool WC-301VGA for VGA = LOUD
I even turned off the fan, but I think the noise is from either pump or rad. Every other review says it's pretty quiet but I say it's very far from quiet. Did I do something wrong? Some things to check: -make sure there is no air in the system; you might need to shake, tilt etc the components to ge...

An issue with the reserator is the pump is so small and crappy you can't realistically cool more than a CPU with it without just choking the flow right off. I consider myself unrealistic then. I have cooled Athlon 64 3500+ and Radeon X800 XT with Resetator 1 for year and a half without any problems...

Well "bad" is a relative term :) The reserator was awesome when compared to any normal air cooling setup. But when compared to any real watercooling rig the only area it didn't lack at was silence. As shown on these forums there are plenty of ways they could improve the design, raise the inlet to t...

I don't think linear scale will work as it is more complicated than that by a long way. Probably could work out a relation but for what? processor temp, flow rate. Ah, I was a bit unclear: I only meant that heat transfer from radiator to air is roughly linear to difference between radiator and air ...

Re: Assisted motorless watercooling concept
But what I've added to speed up this process is the heat-exchanging block which incorporates a peltier. The peltier causes one pipe to be cooler than the other. The much greater temperature difference speeds up the convection process. And the CPU gets cooler water. Intriguing concept indeed. There ...

While that kit is pretty good, I really would like to push the modded DDC as an even quieter performance solution than the D5. Ditto. If your goal is to keep the machine silent, any circulation is enough, so you do not need the additional flow provided by D5. DDC has almost as much pressure head, i...
