sorry for the bad info

Anyway, it seems like apple really had a heat problem. Maybe thats not so uncommon in dual cpu machines, but they sure used a lot of different techniques to get everything under control. I wonder now about the effectiveness of the different compartments, 9 fans, and 21 sensors when ultimately they u...

xp-120 + nexus

ph, I have your processor, p4 3.4 775 with a thermalright xp-90 w/nexus 92mm fan. This combination works great, but I am so impressed with the nexus 120mm that I am considering purchasing the xp-120. I use the nexus 120mm as front and rear case fans. You don't have to worry whether they were made in...

My advice

OZ, Here's what I would do. I would really hate to cut holes in a nice case like the wave master if I could make the noise and cooling levels acceptable by just changing out fans. I believe thats what you want to do. I have a 92 mm medium speed panaflo, a low speed panaflo, and a nexus. This fan was...

G5 design

I looked around and could only find a Steve Jobs assertion that the noise level was 35dba/??. This apparently is 2x less noisy than the G4 which was known as somewhat noisy. The G5 generates a lot more heat than the G4 and uses 9 fans compared to the single fan G4. The G5 also employs 21 sensors to ...

all fans set back in apple design

I find it interesting that the fans in the apple design are all set back from the front and rear surfaces similar to the diy project at overclockers.com that was mentioned here a few days ago. In the p180 the lower compartment uses this idea, but no where else. Then theres the power supply located f...

I have a 160mb 7200.7 sata nqc

There was another post asking about the 160mb 7200.7 and a comment was made about the new sata maxtors as being noisier than sata seagates, but there were some qualifications which I don't remember. That post was made earlier today. Maybe it will help. I'm very happy with my 7200.7, but I've only ha...

I have an XP-90 with the same problem

I have an XP-90 that I am lapping. The base is exactly as the Instigator described - there is still a lot of nickel right in the middle with copper at both ends. The base was convex. I did find the original finish a little wavy, but not really rough, and definitely not flat. Actually it looked good....

What are you doing with side ports on Antec SLK3000B?

I was just wondering what you guys are doing with the side ports on your Antec SLK3000B's. I haven't finished my computer yet so I haven't been able to experiment. Just wondering. Best - FG

Whispermat and hushfoam

I agree with Tephras. Whispermat is a sound barrier (relatively thin) that is layered with other products, typically some kind of foam. The foam can be Hushfoam, Melamine, or something else. Read the SPCR review of Acoustipack. It has pictures of the product from Muffled Computing that clearly show ...

Foam is not as effective as composite product

You could probably find a product like Acoustipack that uses a layer of foam on top of a barrier. An example is Whispermat - it is all over the web. I think this is what the Acoustipack product uses but I'm not sure. Anyway, foam by itself is probably not what you want. In fact, there is a test by s...

Whispermat

I too would be interested to know if Acoustimat is the same material as Whispermat. There are a lot of different shapes that might be useful that available from silentsource.

xp-90 and panaflo

I like www.sidewindercomputer.com. I purchased an xp-90 and a panaflo fan. They shipped right away and changed my order at the last minute to include an adapter for the Intel 775. They also have a page with recordings of various fans. I don't think they have nexus, but you may be able to find someth...
