Any decent Socket A heatsink should work for you. There have been various ones recommended in the past, including the ones that Jabba listed. I'm a little cautious at recommending the Zalman 6000, which I have and it worked alright, though I was unimpressed with it. There are used to be a lot of Soc...

My experience with 120mm Panaflo high speeds is that they're obscene in terms of noise, even when undervolted. I don't know if that impression can be extended to 92mm fans, but I'd certainly lean towards the Low speed one. BTW, I know that the 80mm Panaflos didn't take too well to on-board fan regul...

As in MCE will lighten up on the requirement to encode into dvr-ms or that Sonic will force a re-encode on already Mpeg'ed files? If it's the former, where'd ya hear that? That's GREAT news. If it's the latter, are you sure that Sonic isn't re-encoding the files due to DVB-T not necessarily being t...

Regarding the brick style PSU - I already own one of these for my mini-itx based PVR - I was just not aware that it was so efficient. I've heard mixed things about brick style PSUs. On one hand, I've heard they're supposed to be amazingly efficient. On the other hand, I've looked through a number o...

Ok, no one has mentiont his so I'm going to: If you're PSU can't handle the load and shorts itself, it may take your Motherboard with it. And YES I have had it happen to me. The PSU blew 3 MBs before I figured out what was going on. So, given that, I'd say go with a good quality 400-500 Watt PSU Ye...

I say don't worry too much about it, or even better, look into S3 or S4 suspension (Suspend-to-Ram or Hibernate). They will save far more power than a highly efficient PSU. Here's the reason. Total power of computers seem to bottom out at around 40W. Sometimes, you can get it below there, but it bec...

Sorry for bringing this off-topic, but you've piqued my interest. Unfortunately all DVB-t cards do not do hardware encoding, only software. This doesn't really tax the system anyway. ??? I thought DVB-T was broadcast in Mpeg-2 and that all it did was capture the stream. ...it insists on re-encoding ...

Love cops. I've never received an attitude from them, even when I WAS on the wrong side of the law. I wanted to be one for a while, until I discovered that they generally get paid shit for crappy hours, and get even crappier time off. I've got a friend who's a State trooper in Ohio. Every major holi...

Split from a different post I'd say that draws MAYBE around 160W, depending on your usage. However, I'd also be willing to wager that on boot, you draw close to 300W, if not more. A less powerful PSU will not necessarily use less power, but may end up doing so anyways since a less powerful one typi...

Since RAID capability is built into the motherboard, I'd like to take a stab at it. Being the engineering type, of course I can't leave well-enough alone. ;) Please, please, DO NOT warn me about RAID 0 not being redundant, doubling your chances of losing all of your data, etc. I realize you are wel...

Lots of talk, very few answers. 1) I'd definitely go with the HE processors, but only depending on how long you have this machine around for. Seeing as this essentially comes out of your pay, you have to evaluate the cost of ease-of-silencing vs. the value. With the HEs, your heat output is on the l...

Have you checked your memory for errors? Faulty or bad memory can lead LOTS of crashes as I can personally testify to.
Memtest86 if you haven't tested it.
