Actually, all activities on screen are accompanied by various "high-tech" sounding bleeps etc, especially when zooming into photos, maps, diagrams etc. Flashing crosshairs (with sou...

Heard one on today's news in Canada: " international cocaine smuggling ring". Didn't know we grew coca in Canada. International sounds so much more impressive, though, doesn't it? The comment on "axe" reminded me of another verbal peeve: " eck cetera". The latin phrase is et cetera and means and (et...

Uhm... Where did you get that quote from? This critical flaw (which *has* been used for 0-day malware delivery) is only present in Fx 3.5 because of an issue in TraceMonkey. Sorry, I should have linked it. It's from The Register, here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07/17/universal_browser_crash...

More important is the problem with JavaScript in Firefox 3.5. Sort of puts a big dent in the image of Firefox. The flaw presents a browser crash rather than malware injection risk in all cases. Crashing is most easily achieved on IE , with all versions of Microsoft's browser affected. Version...

I doubt the amount of ram has to be that much of an issue, with ones this old I think people repurposing them will tend to take the ram and such from a few systems and put it into one. Sigh. If you immediately disregard the answers, why bother asking the questions? Computers in this class are limit...

Oh, and you can easily convert the 3-pin power LED connector to 2-pin. Just use a tiny screwdriver/paperclip/pin to move one of the wires to the middle. Use a straight pin or needle. While it's inserted, you can pull the metal connector out of the plastic, then stick it in the proper slot. The meta...

DanceMan -- There's another small case we're just starting to examine. Silverstone SG05. Fits mini-DTX -- has 2 pci slots. Also a conventional 300w psu -- which may be its achilles heel. Thanks, Mike. Interesting case, trades small size for easier cooling. I would have traded the 120mm fan and lapt...

mini- D TX? Exactly. That's why NCIX cleared them out for $50 on their Saturday sale. Slightly bigger than mini-ITX, with two ram slots, compatible with m-ATX cases. So the little oddball is lost inside a large m-ATX case, but is able to use a regular psu. With the 80% psu it idles and runs at 39 w...

If it still works: Dban. It's free, can run off a floppy, and is among the tools on UBCD, Ultimate Boot CD. You can choose from several methods, including DoD, or Department of Defense. I object to destroying working hdd's simply from mindless paranoia. For non-working, as stated by OP, I also disas...
