just wanted to mention - 7200.11 are am improvement over 7200.10 noise-wise. less vibrations and idle and seeks are more muffled. while it won't beat Samsung or Hitachi, obviously, they no longer will drive you to a suicide with all that ruckus :P . there's an interesting seagate drive out there, bt...

i have 750 quad and i like it - it's a tank of a psu. don't use it much though - as nick said - it's not too quiet and i do have more efficient psu's for the loads. the atx power cable is over 20" - it's longer than most; if not, there are extensions you can find for it. what do you need 750w for an...

p5e-vm, asus the board tries to buffer the voltages as fsb is raised but vcore droops pretty bad without mods on it. i am not particularly sure what is the default vcore on this chip. vid is 1.0500v but that's a very loose indicator from my experience. so, if it overvolts a bit, no biggie. there's s...

at about 67-70 at the time. i just got tired of f8-ing every time i restart so i gave up on the coretemp for now. it doesn't read the current flock of wolfdales correctly anyways so i figure - why even bother. coretemp reads tjmax at 105c and vid for the chip is 1.0500. i had to level the vdroop on ...

seems mine is doing something similar... i am keeping it though - it does 4ghz at stock vcore - so i'm good. No way. It wouldn't run a stress test like Prime95 and pass for 24 hours on stock Vcore. Just booting into windoze is not enough. Is this an E8500 or E8400? ah, right... there's no pic uploa...

smilingcrow, the power draw does rise with frequency, if not as much as with voltage. on the other hand, the higher the frequency, the bigger the voltage droop so it might more or less equalize the power consumption between, say, 3.0 and 3.6. on some motherboards it's more prominent so the differenc...

Blue, have you given a thought to 120x38 fans? they should provide more presure at the same rpms, at least theoretically. I know it's not the point of your post, so... i've got recently a pair of DFS123812-1000, at about 6-800 rpm they are pretty smooth, as far as the noise. there are higher rpm mod...

to over-simplify - with newer psu's it's not the total watts rating that counts but the max load on the 12v rail. that's why you had trouble with your old psu. don't believe the manuals... :P ea380 is a single rail psu that can handle more load than lots of higher watt-rated units. you are loading w...

while a wall socket in the us is rated to 15A, it's usually recommended (ask your local electrician :P ) not to load it past 13A. BTW, Dean
if power supplies are the culprit, you could probably replace PSUs in those dells:
http://www.pcpower.com/products/power_supplies/dell/
pcp&c are not the quietest and these won't be as silent as the sprc-recommended psu's but they are ok if you are looking to improve over stock.
