coil whine when fps in 3d app is greatly over 100, not just under stress.
Mildly annoying during loading of some games.

Is there a tutorial for CrystalCPUID for undervolting, etc..? I have played with it, but never seem to "get" it - the interface is REALLY confusing for me Funny, I gave up on RMClock for same exact reason. CrystalCPUID has only one page to set multipliers, voltages, time and load between changing p...

Now I know not to hot-plug fans. One the 20th time you do it, something bad happens :)

undervolted wolfdale is also easy to cool passively. And it offers better performance (per watt too I believe) than any alternative.

I had one, I still use the heatsing a nd the fan from it too cool my hdd. If I remember correctly, it managed to cool Venice 3000+ without spinning fast, basically inaudible. When I switched to Manchester 3800+ and clocked it a bit, heat was too mch and the fan had to work on max rpm to cool it. So ...

tools like rmclock or crystal cpuid do not need CnQ to lower cpu frequency and voltage
I use cpuid all the time with an overclocked Opteron.
It allows me to have lower voltage and multiplier in idle than CnQ while maintaining the max overclock

Actually, when I took both of them out and rested them on a cheap case, they were quite on par with eachother.
And luckily, some foam + AC Silentium T2 Eco was able to cure this. So now I am a happy camper.

I have V1 and quite happy with it. Its excellent, except for the fan itself. It rattles as is common wit TT.
But on 300-500 rpm it cools almost as well as with 1000 rpm. And looks killer too!

In responce to "Vector is not very lightwieght", true... My setup uses 140MB ram after boot.
But there is a lighter version in beta, called (surprise) VL Light. Didn't try it, but I guess it is what it claims to be :)

VectorLinux is a nice Slackware-based distro - it's built for speed on old systems, and it's claimed to be just about the fastest available outside of custom builds... Second that. I use VL on my work laptop. It is 100% capable distro, without any cutbacks. The customized Xfce is very usable. And s...

under linux hdparm makes it very easy to manually power on and off and also set arbitrary powerdown times

What I noticed under WinXP64 tho, is that when drive powers up, everything else in system stops for a second or two - mouse, sound stutters, screen. Very annoying
