Samsung MP0804H owners - a question..
Now perhaps I'm having bad luck with drives (also see Scorpio & WD3200) or I'm being picky but I'm wondering whether there's an issue with the Samsung MP0804H I've got. The best way to find out in this instance as I haven't seen anything from a quick google is to pose it here for fellow Samsung 2.5"...

Well I'd love to send it back.... but if you know how hard it is to replace the HDD in a 12" iBook then you probably wouldn't have suggested it :o Also, it's just such a PITA not having my laptop in action for a week or however long it'd take WD to send me new one. If you've got a credit card then ...

If you're drive is a couple of months old then yes..info & links in the thread I started yesterday hereforgieboy wrote:Is there a firmware patch for this?
If it is more recent like the one I bought in the last week (manufactured this month too) then no and it's best to RMA it.

Neither the Dell patches worked because the drive was so recently manufactured it's got the latest firmware already. There's nothing to be patched. Therefore, it suggests either WD haven't properly fixed it or the drive was faulty. If it was the latter it would definitely be a coincidence. Drive wen...

Looked into those previously, Power Booster couldn't see the drive...why I couldn't tell you...it wasn't like it was running externally. That firmware is the latest and the one which was on the drive. That's why it could not be patched with the updating utility Dell's site. It's probably a 50/50 tos...

WD Scorpio - Clicking issue still not fixed?
As I was finding my new Samsung 2.5" 80gb drive a tad whiney at the top end I decided to buy a Western Digital WD800VE as well and choose between the two to use in my laptop and keep the other as a cloneable backup. Now I'd thought WD had resolved that clunk/clciking issue caused by power management...

For your own sanity, don't get one. They're utter crap (as with most netgear products). Just build your own box. Check out the problems people have been having on the netgear forums Netgear's pro kit is anything but crap... Build my own box...slightly beyond my own capabilities I'm afraid. Best I c...

Netgear Storage Central - anyone tried one?
This has caught my eye recently.. http://image.ebuyer.com/UK/P0095885_C0000109_P0000000.jpg Ok it looks like a cross between a safe and toaster but it could be ideal for SPCR type people who'd like an uber backup solution and not be tied to USB/firewire. I believe it's fanless and a doddle to set u...

Re: What is THE quietest 2.5" hard drive on the market
I don't have clicks on my WD3200JB. I'd RMA yours if I were you. We're talking one tick or click every 3-30 seconds when idle. It's in a external enclosure and it sits on it's stand on a polystyrene block. I suppose that amplifies the noise slightly but then I use the block to cut down on vibration...

The Scorpio could be quieter, possibly, than the Samsung, but it has issues with head reset/clicking noises that must be dealt w/by the user. Search in the forums on the Scorpio for this. Are WD still putting out these 'clicking' drives? I ask because I've just ordered a WD800VE..as the Samsung MP0...

Well it's going back to WorldSpan for testing, but considering the model's been superceded and will probably take time to be sourced/replaced I'm not hanging about. So it's down to either a Samsung 60, 80gb or something from the 5K100 range. Tricky decision, I'd be interested how big a performance d...

I have many external drives and the main problem I've found is vibration noise that occurs on a desk top. Because the majority of these enclosures are cheap and cheerful, plus the stands provided are inadequate, such noise is much more noticeable. What I've done to counteract it is the use of polyst...

Toshiba 2.5" Drive Motors - Prone to fail?
I might be wrong but it sounds like my current Toshiba 2.5" drive in my laptop is on the way out. It's a MK6026GAX and it's only been in 10mths. What appears to be happening is the start of another motor failure. How do I know this? Well exactly the same thing happened with the previous Tosh drive (...

Well I'm now using the fanmate and I'm pretty happy so far. I've got the SilenX fan connected on the 12v mod via the fanmate and it appears to be working quite well. There doesn't appear to be much control right at the top end of the fanmates range but at middle-low it's good. The fact the fan is th...

What to replace the NEC 2510A with?
I'm finding that although the NEC 2510A writer does very good burns and it's relatively cool and quiet, the negatives are outweighing the positives. I'm finding that it's verification and reading capabilities are simply not up to the job. A number of discs I've burnt (mainly DVD-RW) simply do not re...
