Of course, the best cooling one was the loudest.

I'd stay far far away from SilentMaxx, just based on their piss poor customer "service" in the past. That is if you consider stealing your stuff to be "service".

SmartDrive2002, still king?

Anyone found a better enclosure than the SmartDrive2002?

I like that it silences both high pitched idle whine and seek noise, but I wished it was better at cooling.

Just got one myself. It's much quieter than the LiteOn drive it was replacing. Doesn't "hiss" like the LiteOn's do either.

The Aerocool VM-101 performs better than the Zalman HP80. That is if you can direct a small amount of airflow across the fins of the VM-101's heatsinks.

I would be using it with my X800 XT PE, but it won't fit in my Aspire X Q-Pack case. So I had to settle with a Zalman VF700.

BTW, no heatpiped coolers like the Zalman HP80 or the Aerocool VM-101 will fit the Aspire X Q-Pack, without significant modifications. There is a support section that is in the way. The only quiet opportunity is with the Zalman VF700. I did manage to fit a Seasonic S12 330 and a Benq DW1640 in there...

Alas, I noticed that my AOpen i855GMEm-LFS Pentium M mobo is letting out a really high pitched whine when the computer is off. I think it is coming from the Gigabit Ethernet socket, or caused by it. Because when I unplug the network cable the noise is greatly reduced. The primary network jack (neare...

ARGH!

This is so fvcking annoying. I can't believe Seagate added this feature with NO WAY TO DISABLE IT!!!!

DTemp does not work to disable Autoscan.

This is THE LAST Seagate drive I buy for my personal computers.

Autoscan disable feature in the latest DTemp does not work on my 7200.7 120GB PATA drive.

WTF was Seagate thinking? I think my next drive will be a Samsung.

Anand got closer than usual but missed the boat on the benefits of this thing. Although the first thought I had about this guy was for a silent workstation, the first practical plan was for an A/V workstation. In such computers, putting in 4GB of system RAM is a no-brainer. 4GB is virtually never e...

OK, so the price is DOUBLE and the capacity is HALF what they initially publicized? Great going, Gigabyte. Looks like this toy is going the way of Cenatek. It benchmarks well, but overall real world performance is rather weak in comparison. If you are rich, then this is a great idea, but it's...

Hopefully you can get a show going about Silent PC's.

When is Gigabyte going to start distributing stock for sale to the public?

I too live in SoCal, wish they would sell here faster. :p

Those are no different from the classic "blue" ones you see for fans. They are not threaded, so they are not really screws, per se.

Stay away from SilentMaxx. They don't honor their warranties. Worst yet, I had a case where I even got an RMA from them, I shipped a defective PSU to them, and never heard from them since.

Which Heat sink would be better for fanless cooling? (there will still be a case fan.)

Alpha PAL8952 P4 heatsink or Zalman 7000?

I plan to use an Aspire X-PACK mATX case probably.

HSF for AOpen i855GMe Pentium M Mobo

I have the AOpen i855GMe Pentium M Mobo, and can't stand the stock HSF. It has what looks to be standard Intel P4 retention bracket. So would it be possible to use a HSF that uses through hole mounting? Otherwise, I don't think most HSF's that use the retention bracket will clamp down enough to have...
